[Edaily Reporter KIM YOON-JEONG ] The KOSPI surged by more than 5% in early trading on the 22nd, triggering the buy-side circuit breaker, but it closed slightly higher after giving up most of its gains in the latter part of the session. Buoyed by a surge in U.S. semiconductor stocks overnight, the index recovered the 7,100 level during the session, but selling pressure emerged due to caution ahead of Alphabet’s earnings announcement and concerns over rising international oil prices. The KOSDAQ index rose more than 4% during the session but eventually turned lower.
On the 22nd, the closing market conditions were displayed on the electronic board in the trading room at Hana Bank’s headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, as the KOSPI closed at 6,797.70, up 49.75 points (0.74%) from the previous trading day, and the KOSDAQ closed at 751.09, down 2.25 points (0.30%).
