[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] The love lines in Season 32 of “I’m Single” were in constant flux, with repeated twists and turns leading up to the final selection.
On the episode of ENA and SBS Plus’s “I’m Single” that aired on the 22nd, Young-soo and Young-sik engaged in a subtle battle of wits as they went on a “2-on-1 date” with Young-sook. Young-sik gauged the situation, saying, “My car is small, so I think Young-sook would be more comfortable in the back seat,” while Young-soo openly aimed for the seat next to Young-sook, stating, “I’ll wait to see which seat Young-sook chooses before getting in.” After a moment’s hesitation, Young-sook said, “I’ll just sit alone in the back seat,” but Young-soo actually took this as a sign of hope. In an interview, he confessed, “I thought there might still be a chance. It seemed like Young-sook was being considerate of me, so for me, it was a situation where I had to hold onto that as hope.”
Young-cheol and Young-ja had a frosty atmosphere from the very start of their date. The two didn’t exchange a single word in the car on the way to the restaurant. Surprised by the silence that lasted a full 11 minutes, MC Defcon remarked, “This is the first time I’ve ever seen such a ‘Cold War’ couple.” Even after arriving at the restaurant, the two continued to speak in sharp tones and eventually got into an argument. After an argument that lasted a full 1 hour and 40 minutes, Young-ja burst into tears. Young-cheol handed her tissues and candy, but Young-ja grew irritated by his excessive thoughtfulness—especially when he offered her more than two pieces of candy. Seeing that Young-ja wasn’t picking up on his signals to make up, Young-cheol drew a line first, saying, “Let’s just be like an older brother and younger sister. I think we’ll get along better that way.” Young-ja nodded, but she couldn’t hide her troubled expression.
Meanwhile, laughter blossomed during Kwang-soo and Ok-soon’s date. Ok-soon took Kwang-soo’s dad jokes in stride, and even when he noticed the heating pad attached to the back of her clothes, Kwang-soo complimented her, saying, “That’s pretty. I thought it was a wing design,” as a form of flirtation. After the date, Kwang-soo revealed in an interview, “I was glad that (Ok-soon and I) didn’t think too differently.” Hyun-sook and Kyung-soo also enjoyed a date where they reaffirmed their feelings for each other. Hyun-sook asked, “Have you thought about watching a late-night movie or going out together after the final selection?” Kyung-soo immediately replied, “Of course I have.” After the date, Hyun-sook confessed, “The thought I had of giving up on Kyung-soo hasn’t faded again.”
Young-soo, who went on a “2-on-1 date” with Young-sik and Young-sook, deployed a “strategic flirting” tactic. He brought up topics that highlighted his expertise as an accountant and led the conversation by finding common ground with Young-sook regarding their hometowns. However, during her “one-on-one conversation” with Young-soo, Young-sook informed him, “I’ve already made up my mind,” revealing that her heart was set on Young-sik. Young-sook then relayed this to Young-sik, who was delighted, saying, “Now there’s nothing holding me back.”
As night fell, a late-night snack party was held in the common living room. Jeong-sook asked Young-soo—who bears a resemblance to Jung Woo-sung—to recite the famous line from the movie *My Sassy Girl*: “If you drink this, you’re dating me.” Young-soo immediately attempted to deliver Jung Woo-sung’s famous line, and Jeong-sook, joking, “What if I don’t drink it?” downed the drink in one gulp. Afterward, Jeong-sook asked Young-soo for a “one-on-one conversation” and confessed, “I’ve already ended things with Young-ho. Next, I want to get to know you, Young-soo. If I win the ‘Super Date Ticket,’ I’ll use it on you.”
Young-ho also approached Jeong-hee and said, “If I win the ‘Super Date Pass’ tomorrow, I plan to use it on you.” However, Jeong-hee pointed out that they might not be a good match, citing Young-ho’s driving habits as one reason. Young-ho vigorously defended himself, saying, “I’m the kind of person who, if someone cuts me off, hits the brakes and signals with my hand for them to merge. I might even show you my dashcam footage later.” Jeong-hee, whose heart had softened, expressed her interest in an interview, saying, “I was grateful that Young-ho said he’d do whatever it takes to win the ‘Super Date Pass.’ I’m looking forward to it.”
On the morning of Day 5, Young-soo went to see Soon-ja. He told her that Jeong-sook had expressed her intention to use the “Super Date Pass” on him the previous day, and flirted by saying, “But since you and I share a common interest in golf, I don’t want to leave anything to regret.” However, he suddenly added, “I had also considered using the ‘Super Date Pass’ on Young-sook or Jeong-sook,” leaving Soon-ja bewildered. Seeing this, host Song Hae-na expressed frustration with Young-soo’s way of speaking, asking, “Why do you keep making the women feel like they’re your second choice?”
Ok-soon called Sang-cheol aside to end their relationship. Sang-cheol took it in stride, and later in an interview, he remained composed, saying, “It’s a shame, but I think it’s right to respect and accept her choice.” Gwang-su visited the women’s dormitory and suggested a “music walk” to Ok-soon. The two walked while sharing a pair of earbuds and discussed the meaning of the “final choice.” After the walk, Kwang-soo said in an interview, “I think I’m falling in love with Ok-soon. Rather than being fully submerged yet, maybe I’m just about to roll up my pants and step into the water?” Young-cheol also visited Young-ja once more. Young-ja apologized first, saying, “I was a bit sensitive yesterday,” and Young-cheol replied, “I appreciate you saying that.” The two wrapped up their conversation by agreeing to get along comfortably as an older brother and younger sister from now on.
Amid the chaos, the first-ever “Super Date Pass” team competition in the history of *I Am Single* unfolded. Divided into the “Solo Team” and the “Nara Team,” the first event was the “32-Second Dash.” Here, Young-soo demonstrated leadership befitting the eldest brother, leading the “Solo Team” to victory. In the second game, “Round and Round,” a fierce physical scuffle broke out. As the competition became too heated, the production team called a halt to ensure the participants’ safety, and after a rematch, the “Nara Team” emerged victorious. With the score tied, a teaser released immediately afterward revealed a surprising twist: Young-ja, who had given her all—even competing barefoot—confessed, “I was planning to use the ‘Super Date Pass’ on Young-cheol oppa if I won it.”
“I’m Single” is a dating show where single men and women who desperately want to get married gather to struggle to find love. The “divorced singles” specials from Seasons 10, 16, 22, and 28 became major talking points, and attention is now focused on whether Season 32 will continue this trend.
The unpredictable romances of Season 32 will air on Wednesday, the 29th, at 10:30 p.m.
