LG Uplus(032640)[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah ] LG Uplus’s personalized artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been recognized for its technical excellence at the world’s most prestigious international academic conference in the field of information retrieval. The company is set to strengthen its competitiveness in personalized services by leveraging next-generation AI technology that analyzes customer situations and preferences based on telecommunications service usage data.

LG Uplus announced on the 23rd that a research paper on its proprietary “Personal Intelligence” technology has been accepted for presentation at the international academic conference “SIGIR 2026.”

SIGIR (Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval) is a leading international academic conference in the field of information retrieval, serving as a platform where global universities, research institutions, and companies present their latest research findings on AI and search technologies. LG Uplus plans to present the research results on its Personal Intelligence technology at this event.

Personal Intelligence is a technology that uses AI to analyze a wide range of customer data to understand an individual’s circumstances and interests. It is characterized by its ability to combine diverse data—such as call summaries, app and web usage history, and location-based usage patterns—to enable more sophisticated customer analysis than existing personalization technologies.

Many existing personalization services provided recommendations based on limited information, such as age, subscription plans, and usage history of specific services. In contrast, LG Uplus’s technology comprehensively analyzes customers’ actual usage behavior and content interests to deliver more tailored services.

For example, even when recommending rate plans or content, the system provides optimized suggestions by reflecting not just basic subscription information, but also which services the customer typically uses and what content they have shown interest in.

LG Uplus has also enhanced the technology’s stability in preparation for commercial deployment. It was designed to operate even in environments where external data transfer is restricted and to maintain consistent performance during large-scale data processing. The company has ensured accuracy while processing hundreds of thousands of data points daily and has implemented a system for responding to service disruptions.

The acceptance of this paper signifies recognition not only of the research achievements in personalized AI technology but also of its level of maturity, which makes it applicable to real-world telecommunications service environments. It is also seen as securing a technological edge in the telecommunications industry’s competition to drive AI-based customer experience innovation.

LG Uplus plans to further develop Personal Intelligence into “Agentic Context Engineering” technology. This approach enables AI to independently analyze new information gathered during customer interactions and service usage, link it with existing data, and continuously deepen its understanding of customers.

Based on this, the company aims to implement next-generation personalized services where AI proactively identifies changes in customer interests or circumstances to suggest services.

LG Uplus intends to expand the application of Personal Intelligence to customer-facing services such as IPTV content recommendations and customer support, and plans to broaden its scope to include internal Agent AI (B2E) that support employee workflows in the future.

Jeon Young-hwan, Team Leader of the Personal Agent Technology Team at LG Uplus, stated, “The acceptance of this paper at SIGIR is a result of international recognition of the competitiveness of the personalized AI technology LG Uplus has been developing,” adding, “We will continue to advance AI technology that provides a deeper understanding of our customers to deliver differentiated personalized services.”
