According to Google Trends data on the 23rd, the global search volume index for the keyword “BTS” reached “100”—the highest level in the past three months—on the 20th, the day of the World Cup final. Looking at BTS-related search terms over the past week, eight of the top 10—including “BTS World Cup” and “BTS FIFA”—were World Cup-related. The latest weekly search volume for BTS increased by 70% compared to the previous week and by 150% compared to the same period last year.
The Google Trends search volume index is a metric that sets the point with the highest search volume during a specified period as “100” and indicates relative changes in search volume. Over the past three months, the day with the second-highest search volume after the 20th was June 13, the 13th anniversary of BTS’s debut. The search volume index at that time was “46.”
Music streaming figures also surged following their halftime show appearance. According to Luminate, a data analytics firm used to compile the Billboard charts, BTS’s hit song “Dynamite” was streamed 160,000 times in the U.S. on the day of the World Cup final, a 13% increase from the previous day.
The first-ever World Cup final halftime show featured global pop stars including BTS, Madonna, Shakira, and Justin Bieber. The most-streamed song from the halftime show in the U.S. on the day of the final was the official World Cup theme song “Dai Dai,” performed by Shakira and Burna Boy, which was streamed 979,000 times. This represents a 25% increase from the previous day.
Meanwhile, BTS took the stage for the halftime show wearing red-and-black outfits inspired by the “Red Devils” concept and performed “Dynamite” with their signature dynamic choreography, drawing an enthusiastic response.
Following their halftime show appearance, the members shared their thoughts through their agency, Big Hit Music, saying, “It’s an honor to perform at the World Cup halftime show, which we’ve enjoyed watching since we were children,” and added, “We’re happy to have put on a performance for a good cause, shouting ‘love’ alongside wonderful artists and children.” They continued, “We believe we were able to reach this stage thanks to the support of ‘ARMY’ (their fanbase) around the world,” and added, “We are truly grateful to everyone who watched us.”
