[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LG Energy Solution is partnering with Chungbuk National University, North Chungcheong Province, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Korea Battery Industry Association to cultivate local talent in the battery sector. The plan is to enhance the competitiveness of the battery industry ecosystem centered on Ochang by expanding education and recruitment programs tailored to corporate needs.

LG Energy Solution announced on the 23rd that it had signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Cultivation of Local Talent in Growth Engine Sectors” with Chungbuk National University, North Chungcheong Province, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Korea Battery Industry Association at the Chungbuk National University main campus. The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Ki-soo, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO) of LG Energy Solution; Cho Jeong-ho, Director of the Planning Office at Chungbuk National University; Byeon In-soon, Director of the AI, Science, and Talent Bureau of North Chungcheong Province; Choi Woo-hyuk, Director General for Advanced Industry Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; and Lee Hee-yeop, Executive Director of the Korea Battery Industry Association.

This agreement was established to align with the government’s “Plan for Cultivating Regional Talent Linked to Growth Engines” and to bridge the gap between the university’s educational and research capabilities and the technological needs of the corporate sector. The goal is to build a talent development system specialized in the battery sector—a key regional strategic industry—and to establish a sustainable foundation for industry-academia-government collaboration involving the government, local governments, universities, and the private sector.

Under the agreement, the participating institutions plan to: △ jointly develop customized curricula and short-term programs that reflect corporate needs; △ expand contract-based enrollment systems and employment-linked education; △ provide lectures and mentoring by LG Energy Solution researchers and experts; △ operate on-site training and internship programs; and △ conduct joint policy and technical research to advance the rechargeable battery industry.

Through this agreement, LG Energy Solution aims to strengthen both the region’s manufacturing infrastructure and talent competitiveness, centered on its Ochang Energy Plant, a key production hub. North Chungcheong Province is a core hub of the domestic battery industry, home to LG Energy Solution as well as other global battery companies and materials, parts, and equipment manufacturers.

Kim Ki-soo, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO) of LG Energy Solution, stated, “This is highly significant as it brings together companies, local governments, and the national government as a single team to build a regional talent pool and R&D ecosystem that will drive the growth of the next-generation battery industry.” He added, “We will actively collaborate to secure talent tailored to on-site needs and strengthen the global competitiveness of the regional industrial ecosystem.”
