[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LGELECTRONICS will supply an integrated cockpit solution—combining the instrument cluster and infotainment system—for the Renault Group’s first commercially available software-defined vehicle (SDV) in Europe. The solution is designed to enhance driver convenience by providing unified control over individual systems, while also simplifying parts and design for the automaker.

LGELECTRONICS announced on the 6th that it has equipped the Renault Group’s electric commercial vehicle, the “New Trafic e-Tech Electric,” with its next-generation integrated cockpit solution. This vehicle was recently named the “2027 World Van of the Year.”

An SDV (Software-Defined Vehicle) is a car in which key vehicle functions are controlled by a high-performance computer and centralized software. While conventional vehicles operated dozens of electronic control units (ECUs) separately for functions such as the cockpit, driver assistance, and powertrain, SDVs integrate these to simplify the hardware and software architecture.

LGELECTRONICS’ integrated cockpit solution controls both the instrument cluster—which displays driving information such as speed, engine RPM, and warning lights—and the infotainment system—which provides navigation and media playback—as a single unit.

The information previously displayed across two screens has been consolidated into a unified user experience and interface (UX/UI), allowing drivers to intuitively access the information they need. Automakers can reduce production costs by minimizing the number of parts and optimizing the design.

It also supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Even after a vehicle leaves the factory, software—including AI-based features—can be added or performance can be improved, allowing for the continuous enhancement of the vehicle’s functionality and user experience.

LGELECTRONICS has been applying the manufacturing technology and UX/UI design capabilities it has accumulated in its TV, home appliance, and mobile businesses to the automotive instrument cluster and infotainment sectors. With this supply agreement, the company plans to expand its SDV integrated solutions business—which bundles multiple functions into a single system—beyond individual products.

The company’s partnership with the Renault Group has also spanned more than 10 years. LGELECTRONICS was named a Renault Group “Outstanding Supplier” in 2014, 2017, and 2020, and in 2021, the two companies jointly developed an Android-based in-vehicle infotainment system.

LGELECTRONICS plans to strengthen its supply base in the SDV automotive electronics market by expanding its partnerships to include major automakers in North America and Asia, in addition to the Renault Group.

Eun Seok-hyun, President and Head of LGELECTRONICS’ VS Business Division, said, “Based on close collaboration with global automakers, we will continue to advance the core technologies and solutions necessary for the mobility industry’s transition to SDVs.”
