[Edaily Reporter Kim Se-yeon ] KYUNGDONGNAVIEN(009450)has completed its domestic production system for core heat pump components and is accelerating its push into the electric heating market. With the production of outdoor units now taking place domestically as well, the company has established an integrated operational foundation covering everything from supply to installation and service.

KYUNGDONGNAVIEN announced on the 24th that it has begun mass production of air-source heat pump boilers at its Pyeongtaek plant in Gyeonggi Province. By starting production of the outdoor units for air-source heat pump boilers—following the heat storage tanks and HeatHub controllers, which are already produced domestically—the company has established a comprehensive domestic production system for the entire heat pump system.
The establishment of this production system is part of the push to electrify heating and hot water systems in pursuit of carbon neutrality. As Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is promoting a heat pump deployment project, KYUNGDONGNAVIEN opened the “Navien Heating Electrification Center” in Jeju last May and launched its air-source heat pump in June.
The air-source heat pump (PEM550) produced at the Pyeongtaek plant is an eco-friendly, high-efficiency solution that uses electricity to transfer thermal energy from the air to water, providing both heating and hot water. By using an eco-friendly refrigerant, it has reduced the global warming potential by 68% compared to conventional refrigerants. With a Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) for heating of up to 5.2, it achieves high energy efficiency and contributes to energy savings. SCOP is a heating efficiency metric that reflects real-world usage conditions; a value of 5.2 indicates that the unit can produce more than five times the thermal energy relative to the electrical power input.
The air-source heat pump boiler incorporates KYUNGDONGNAVIEN’s heating and hot water technologies accumulated in both domestic and international markets. By applying “Navien HeatHub”—KYUNGDONGNAVIEN’s proprietary integrated heating and hot water piping unit—it precisely controls flow rate and temperature to the level of an instantaneous gas water heater, thereby enhancing hot water quality. Additionally, it provides hot water at temperatures up to 65 degrees, delivering a user experience similar to that of conventional boilers. By heating and supplying hot water only when needed, it also eliminates concerns about the growth of Legionella bacteria.
Based on its experience leading the high-efficiency heating market, KYUNGDONGNAVIEN plans to take the lead in the heat pump market. To this end, the company will establish a standard model for nationwide expansion by 2028, based on empirical data accumulated at the “Navien Heating Electrification Center Jeju.” It will provide standardized installation manuals and hands-on training to dealerships nationwide, operate an installation quality certification system and a program to train specialized technicians, and strengthen its one-stop service system.
KYUNGDONGNAVIEN stated, “Domestic production of air-source heat pumps will serve as a crucial foundation for further enhancing supply stability and service competitiveness,” adding, “KYUNGDONGNAVIEN, which has driven the development of heating and hot water markets both domestically and internationally, will lead the energy transition based on the technological capabilities and know-how it has accumulated over the years.”
