[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] SK Group is set to collaborate with global Big Tech companies on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure projects worth $750 billion (approximately 1,100 trillion won) over the next five years. SK Group will invest over $500 billion in infrastructure with NVIDIA and will also collaborate with Microsoft (MS), Entropic, and others on projects worth $250 billion.
SK Group announced on the 24th (local time) that it had agreed to collaborate with NVIDIA, Microsoft, Anthropic, and others in the field of AI infrastructure—including AI semiconductors and data centers—at the “AI Summit” held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, U.S.
The most notable development is the comprehensive partnership with NVIDIA to build AI infrastructure worth over $500 billion. SKTelecom plans to introduce “Vera Rubin,” a next-generation AI computing system equipped with SK hynix’s HBM4, based on NVIDIA’s full-stack AI factory architecture, the “DSX” platform, and will gradually build and operate high-performance AI factories starting next year. Through this, the company will accelerate the development of large-scale AI infrastructure for sovereign, physical, and agentic AI, as well as enterprise AI services.
Following the establishment of a long-term technology partnership with NVIDIA, SK hynix will also collaborate on the long-term supply of memory. The two companies plan to jointly develop and optimize next-generation AI memory, such as High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), to meet infrastructure demands ranging from large language model (LLM) training to agentic AI and physical AI.
Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, said, “South Korea possesses all the conditions to emerge as a global AI powerhouse, including world-class networks and data centers, leadership in semiconductor technology, and a vast industrial base.” He added, “NVIDIA will work with SKTelecom and SK hynix to build a new generation of AI factories that will drive South Korea’s next phase of growth.”
Choi Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, said, “Competitiveness in the AI era depends not only on how well we utilize AI, but also on how much intelligence we can generate,” adding, “Based on SKTelecom’s AI infrastructure capabilities and SK hynix’s AI memory, we will build a world-class AI factory together with NVIDIA.”
SK hynix has also signed a mid- to long-term memory supply agreement with Microsoft. SK hynix will supply server memory optimized for AI workloads to Microsoft’s data centers. Furthermore, the two companies agreed to jointly develop memory solutions tailored to AI workload requirements. They also plan to establish new standards for AI server memory following validation in actual server environments.
SK hynix’s decision to sign long-term memory supply agreements is seen as a move to lay the groundwork for earnings growth over the coming years. As competition for investment in AI infrastructure—such as data centers—intensifies due to the proliferation of generative AI, the company is expected to secure a stable source of demand over the long term.
