Distributor Sony Pictures announced that “Jumanji: Open World” is set to be released in January of next year. Along with this announcement, the studio released a teaser trailer showcasing the new adventure.
The “Jumanji” series, which has established itself as a new legend in the action-adventure genre by surpassing $2 billion in global box office revenue, returns in January 2027 with “Jumanji: Open World.” This installment expands the story’s setting from the game into the real world, promising the series’ largest, most unimaginable, and unpredictable adventure yet.

The newly released teaser trailer kicks off with a surprise as “Dr. Bravestone” (Dwayne Johnson)—who was previously a character within the game—appears in the real world. “Spencer” (Alex Wolff) and his friends—who once embarked on extraordinary adventures inside the game using Spencer’s body—are shocked to see “Dr. Bravestone” appear before their eyes. They soon realize that he and the other game characters have escaped into the real world while trapped in a “demo version.”
Following the line, “I don’t think this is Jumanji,” the real world is thrown into chaos as a giant hippo and a herd of ostriches race through the heart of the city—a series of appearances by game creatures that foreshadow an adventure on an unprecedented scale and with even more thrilling action.
Adding to the tension is Spencer’s confusion, expressed through the line, “Did I ruin the world?” as he is given a new mission: he must send the game characters back to Jumanji to set everything right. Furthermore, this trailer—which features car chases and large-scale action set in the real world beyond the game’s realm—builds anticipation for the birth of the series’ most expansive “open world” to date.
Above all, the film brings back the cast that drove the global success of the previous installment—Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan—adding to the excitement.
Within this new setting, they are set to showcase their signature playful chemistry along with upgraded action and comedy, once again bringing the series’ unique charm to life. Furthermore, director Jake Kasdan, who created the new “Jumanji” universe, returns to the director’s chair, raising expectations for an even more evolved world and an adventure of overwhelming scale.
“Jumanji: Open World” is the latest installment in the “Jumanji” series, released eight years after “Jumanji: The Next Level,” which premiered in 2019. “Jumanji: The Next Level” drew 1.05 million viewers in South Korea.
