[Edaily Reporter kim kwanyong ] The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea launched a ballistic missile toward the East Sea on the 6th.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that day, “Our military detected a short-range ballistic missile launched from the Wonsan area in North Korea toward the East Sea around 5:00 p.m.,” adding that they are analyzing the missile’s specifications, including its type, flight distance, and altitude.

It further emphasized, “While our military has strengthened surveillance and vigilance in preparation for additional launches, South Korea, the U.S., and Japan are maintaining full readiness by closely sharing information related to North Korea’s ballistic missiles.”

This marks North Korea’s first ballistic missile launch in 42 days since June 25. At that time, North Korea conducted test launches of tactical ballistic missiles, an upgraded 240-mm 24-barrel multiple rocket launcher, and range-extended rounds for 155-mm self-propelled howitzers, all under the supervision of State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un. Through these tests, North Korea demonstrated its tactical strike capability targeting the entire South Korean territory.

Subsequently, on the 3rd of last month, North Korea also demonstrated its sea-based strike capabilities by test-firing a strategic cruise missile from the new 5,000-metric-ton-class destroyer “Ganggeon-ho.” However, cruise missiles are not directly prohibited under United Nations Security Council resolutions.
