[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-wook ] Hankook Tire ( HANKOOK TIRE & TECHNOLOGY(161390)) announced on the 6th that it will supply three types of its electric vehicle-specific “iON” tires as original equipment (OE) for the BMW i7, the electric version of BMW’s flagship 7 Series sedan.
The supplied products include the all-season “iON Evo AS,” the winter “iON i-cept,” and the ultra-high-performance “iON Supreme,” available in 20-, 21-, and 22-inch sizes, respectively. Hankook Tire explains that these tires were developed based on its proprietary electric vehicle (EV)-specific technology framework, “iON Innovative Technology,” and achieve a balanced performance across key areas such as energy efficiency, traction, mileage, low noise, and rolling resistance.
The tires supplied this time have earned the official “Star” certification mark, which is awarded only to original equipment tires that meet BMW’s quality and performance standards.
Hankook Tire has maintained a partnership with BMW for 16 years, beginning in 2011 with “MINI,” a subsidiary of the BMW Group. The company has expanded its supply portfolio to include the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 Series; the X1, X3, and X5; high-performance models such as the M5; and electric vehicles like the i4 and iX. It has also been supplying high-performance tires to the “BMW Driving Center,” which opened in 2014, for 12 consecutive years.
