The central motif of the official poster for the 31st Busan International Film Festival is “a group portrait.” Capturing the audience members who attended last year’s festival, this poster highlights the audience not merely as spectators of the festival, but as active participants who help bring the festival to life.
The diverse appearances and narratives of those who attended the festival, each with their own perspective, blend together within the poster, reaffirming the central role of the audience at the heart of the festival. The depiction of the audience as a group symbolizes the countless encounters and moments that make up the festival, capturing the stories of attendees experiencing the event in their own unique ways as a single landscape. Through this, the poster conveys the message that it is the collective experiences of countless audience members that ultimately come together to complete the festival.
Art Director Choi Soon-dae, who has served as art director since the 2nd Busan International Film Festival and has designed posters and festival spaces, was responsible for the planning and design of this official poster. Art Director Choi explained his creative intent, stating, “It has always been the audience—who have filled the seats—that has made the film festival complete,” and added, “I created this poster to convey the meaning that the film festival itself becomes a movie in every moment—from the moment the audience arrives, stays, and waits for the films.”
The 31st Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 6 to October 15 at the Busan Cinema Center and throughout Busan. Actress Kim Min-ha will host the opening ceremony.
