According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 12th, “The Martian” topped the box office on the 11th, drawing 236,227 viewers. Its cumulative audience count stands at 2,368,657. Since its release on the 5th, “The Martian” has held the No. 1 spot at the box office for seven consecutive days.
“Spider-Man: A Brand New Day” (Spider-Man 4) took second place that day, drawing 151,901 viewers. Its cumulative audience stands at 6,242,895.
Third place went to the Korean animated film “Love Hachuping: The Legend of the Whale Gem” (“Hachuping 2”). “Hachuping 2” drew 19,209 viewers and continues to lead the pack among Korean films.
Fourth place went to Director Na Hong-jin’s “Hope,” and fifth place went to the Japanese documentary “What Should We Have Done?”
As of 8:27 a.m. on the 12th, “The Odyssey” had 784,093 advance tickets sold, ranking first in advance ticket sales. Second place went to “Spider-Man 4” (245,232 tickets), and third place to “Detective Conan: The Fallen Angel of the Highway” (65,584 tickets).
“The Odyssey” depicts the journey of Odysseus (played by Matt Damon), the hero who led the Trojan War to victory after a decade-long conflict, as he sets out to return to his wife Penelope (played by Anne Hathaway) and his son Telemachus (played by Tom Holland).
As the latest film from director Christopher Nolan—whose previous works, including *Interstellar*, *Dunkirk*, *Tenet*, and *Oppenheimer*, have drawn over 36 million viewers in South Korea alone—it generated high anticipation. In particular, it garnered attention as the first film in cinematic history to be shot entirely with IMAX film cameras. The film stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya Coleman, and Charlize Theron.
