[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-il ] SamsungElectronics(005930) The stock price rose more than 5% during the trading session, regaining the 250,000 won mark. Along with analyses from the securities industry suggesting that the recent stock price correction is nearing its end, forecasts indicate that the ongoing memory supply shortage and large-scale shareholder return policies will serve as catalysts for the stock price rally.

According to MP Doctor on the 12th, as of 10:33 a.m., SamsungElectronics is trading at 251,500 won, up 12,000 won (5.01%) from the previous trading day. SamsungElectronics opened at 241,000 won today and expanded its gains to recover the 250,000 won mark.

Kang Da-hyun, an analyst at SamsungSecurities, assessed SamsungElectronics’ stock as “the end of a correction and the beginning of an uptrend.” SamsungElectronics’ stock price has fallen 49% from its peak, bringing its 12-month forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E ratio) down to 4 times.

Analyst Kang assessed that the short-term correction driven by supply and demand has largely come to an end, as a significant portion of the excessive credit-leveraged positions that caused SamsungElectronics’ stock price to plummet in June and July has been liquidated. Furthermore, she analyzed that concerns over AI-related financial cycles and uncertainty regarding the sustainability of investment—which had previously weighed on the market—are likely to be significantly alleviated, as OpenAI, which is preparing for an IPO, is expected to raise substantial funds through an initial public offering (IPO) as early as 2026.

The outlook for the memory market is also positive. Analyst Kang projected that the memory supply shortage will persist for at least three years, through 2028. His analysis indicates that, as of August 2026, the fulfillment rate for memory demand from big tech clients stands at only 60%, suggesting that the supply shortage is actually intensifying.

In particular, he predicted a chain reaction of demand carryover: unmet memory demand in 2026—which exceeds supply capacity—will be deferred to 2027, and any unmet demand in 2027 will carry over to 2028. Conversely, he explained that since it takes at least three years to complete new memory production lines, it will be difficult to expand supply in the short term.

Expanded shareholder returns were also cited as a catalyst for a rise in the stock price. Analyst Kang stated, “The large-scale shareholder return policy to be announced soon is expected to serve as a powerful catalyst driving future stock price gains.”

He also identified potential for a rebound based on past stock price trends. There have been four instances where SamsungElectronics’ stock price fell by more than 40% from its previous high: in 2008 (-47%), 2022 (-47%), 2024 (-44%), and 2026 (-49%). The report explains that in all three previous instances, the stock price successfully rebounded one month, three months, and six months after hitting bottom, with the maximum increase reaching 60%.

Regarding the new shareholder return policy, Analyst Kang projected that the annual shareholder return would increase more than tenfold compared to the previous level of 9.8 trillion won. He also forecast that the total shareholder return over the next three years would amount to at least 600 trillion to 700 trillion won, with a dividend yield of 7% to 15% based on cash dividends.
