The Netflix film “Dochaebi” is an action historical drama set in a border region where slash-and-burn farmers have formed a village. In the mountains deeper than that, a former military officer named “Taesan,” who had been living in hiding with a Jurchen woman named “Ahai,” comes to be known as “Dochaebi” after fighting against “Ido-gwan,” a mysterious figure wearing a mask who hunts down the slash-and-burn farmers. The title “Dochabi” is a pure Korean word meaning “goblin.”
The film “Dochabi” is drawing attention as the latest work from director Ahn Tae-jin, who won Best Picture awards at major film festivals for his debut film “The Owl” and earned acclaim from audiences and critics alike for his unique directorial style. Additionally, screenwriter Hwang Seong-gu, known for his deep character development and solid storytelling in works such as “The Man Who Lives with the King” and “Park Yeol,” wrote the screenplay.
Furthermore, the film gains added credibility as it is produced by Ondaworks, the production company behind “The Man Who Lives with the King,” which ranks as the second-highest-grossing film of all time. “Dochabi” is set to deliver the fresh excitement of an action historical drama unlike anything seen before, featuring intense characters, a compelling story, and high-quality production values.

Kim Do-hoon plays “Taesan,” who is framed as the leader of a barbarian tribe after being caught up in a mysterious conspiracy orchestrated by masked figures. Amid life-or-death moments where he survives like a monster and fights like a ghost, he eventually becomes “Dochabi,” a guardian of the people.
Jeon Jong-seo takes on the role of “Ah-hai,” further heightening anticipation. “Ah-hai” is a woman with nimble movements and exceptional martial arts skills who fights alongside “Taesan.” Attention is also focused on the fresh chemistry and intense synergy that Kim Do-hoon (as “Taesan”) and Jeon Jong-seo (as “Ah-hai”) will create together.
Lee Joon-gi plays “Lee Do-gwan,” the supreme commander of the border region who harbors a deep desire for power. With his signature charisma, overwhelming action sequences, and sharp acting, he promises to bring another defining role to life. If Lee Joon-gi appears in *Dochaebi*, it will mark his first film appearance in about 10 years, following *Under the Sicilian Sun*, which was released in 2017.
Lee Sang-yi takes on the role of “Park Se-ryong,” an inspector who visits the scene to investigate reports of mysterious masked figures appearing in the north. Inspector “Park Se-ryong” is expected to heighten the tension in the film by harboring suspicions toward the somewhat suspicious “Lee Do-gwan.”
Bae In-hyuk plays the Crown Prince, “Yeolhwa-gun.” He is set to portray the deep inner world and emotional journey of a character who harbors a sense of responsibility and compassion toward the farmers suffering at the hands of the barbarians.
