[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] The KOSPI, which opened up more than 2% and recovered the 7,200 level during the session, turned lower and fell back below the 6,900 mark. As profit-taking by retail and institutional investors hit the market, the index gave up all its gains and extended its losses.

According to MP Doctor on the 18th, as of 11:45 a.m. today, the KOSPI is trading at 6,894.59, down 82.95 points (1.19%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 7,127.77, up 2.15% from the previous trading day, and rose as high as 7,216.62 during the session, but then reversed course and fell below the 6,900 mark.

In terms of supply and demand, retail investors and institutions are net sellers of 428.4 billion won and 272.3 billion won, respectively, on the stock market. Foreign investors are the sole net buyers, purchasing 759.0 billion won. Program trading, combining arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades, shows a net selling position of 232.8 billion won.

Semiconductor stocks, which drove the index higher in early trading, are also rapidly giving up their gains. SamsungElectronics is trading at 269,500 won, down 5,000 won (1.82%) from the previous trading day, while SK hynix(000660)—which had risen to the 1.79 million won level during the session—is trading at 1,678,000 won, up 33,000 won (2.01%).

Among the top market-cap stocks, SKSQUARE(402340)(1.30%), Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(3.65%), and SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION(028260)(0.27%) are showing strength, while SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)(-4.36%), HyundaiMotor(005380)(-2.76%), and LG Energy Solution(373220)(-3.92%) are trading lower.

By sector, IT services are down by about 4%. Securities, construction, transportation equipment and parts, entertainment and culture, machinery and equipment, medical and precision instruments, electricity and gas, textiles and apparel, pharmaceuticals, real estate, general services, and chemicals are all down. In contrast, insurance, transportation and warehousing, and telecommunications are showing slight gains.

At the same time, the KOSDAQ Index is trading at 849.24, down 15.41 points (1.78%) from the previous trading day. In terms of supply and demand, foreign and institutional investors are net sellers of 21.5 billion won and 161.9 billion won, respectively, while retail investors are net buyers of 185.5 billion won.

Among the top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, Alteogen Inc.(196170)(-2.71%), ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)(-3.85%), ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)(-4.50%), Rainbow Robotics(277810)(-2.89%), and LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(-2.68%) are trading lower.
