[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] #BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD., a total solutions provider for chemical materials, is expanding into new business areas—such as building materials and electronic device materials—based on stable performance in automotive surface materials.
BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD. announced on the 19th that its revenue for the first half of 2026 reached 28.7 billion won, an 11.1% increase from the 25.8 billion won recorded in the same period last year. The company explained that it continued to grow despite rising raw material prices and geopolitical uncertainties in the Middle East. A panoramic view of the BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD. factory. (Photo: BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD.) By business segment, sales of automotive surface materials remained at the previous year’s level, while sales of surface materials for construction materials grew, driven by increased sales of SPC flooring. The company plans to expand the mass production and sales of SPC flooring in the second half of the year by utilizing the facilities whose expansion was completed in the first half. It has also secured a contract to supply art walls for the Banpo Jugong redevelopment complex by H Construction.
Operating profit for the first half of the year was 2 billion won, a decrease of 600 million won compared to the same period last year. This was influenced by increases in R&D expenses, labor costs, defect repair costs, and depreciation expenses for new facilities. The company recorded a net loss of 400 million won. This reflected a loss of approximately 2.1 billion won related to derivatives incurred during the KOSDAQ listing process last April. The company views this as a one-time factor and expects to return to profitability in the third quarter.
In the second half of the year, BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD. will ramp up investments in new businesses. BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD. plans to invest 4.7 billion won in Plant No. 5 to install a T-dye facility for functional sheets and is scheduled to install additional equipment for the production of solar EVA film and OLED encapsulation film by September.
The company is also investing 2.1 billion won in its surface materials business for electronic devices. It is proceeding with the expansion of Plant 3 and the installation of precision surface coating equipment, and plans to begin accepting orders and mass-producing products that have been under development for approximately 10 months. Full-scale mass production is scheduled to begin this November.
The company is also expanding its production base. It is proceeding with a project to expand the site from the current 53,000 square meters of Plants 1, 2, and 5 to approximately 75,000 square meters by acquiring additional surrounding land.
The company has also set a goal of improving profitability by increasing the proportion of high-performance materials. Last year, high-performance materials accounted for 7% of total sales, and the company plans to raise this figure to 25% in the future by expanding in-house development and production.
A BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD. official stated, “While sales of automotive surface materials remained stable, sales of surface materials for construction materials—led by SPC flooring—grew,” adding, “We will improve profitability in the second half of the year and maintain our profit trend by expanding new revenue streams and strengthening product competitiveness.”
