Jannabi Completes First Asian Tour… “The Power of K-Bands” Confirmed Across 7 Cities
Completed a Tour of 7 Countries from Taipei to Jakarta
Responding to Korean Choruses with Covers of Local Classics
Second Solo Concert at K-SPO Dome in October
[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] The band Jannabi has successfully completed its first-ever Asian tour since their debut. This achievement is significant not only because it expands the scope of their overseas performances but also because they led local audiences in singing along to their Korean songs, confirming the potential for Jannabi’s music to gain a global following. Jannabi (Photo courtesy of Peponi Music) According to their agency, Peponi Music, JANNABI wrapped up their first Asian tour, “JANNABI 1st Asia Tour <Sweat & Stardust>,” with a performance at the JIEXPO Theater in Jakarta, Indonesia, on the 23rd. Launched in Taipei last June, the tour spanned seven countries and seven cities—including Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur—before concluding in Jakarta. This marks the first time JANNABI has organized a single tour across Asia to meet with local fans. During the tour, JANNABI also contributed to relief efforts for earthquake victims in Indonesia, demonstrating their kindness. What caught the eye was the audience’s reaction, which transcended language barriers. Fans in each city sang along in Korean to Jannabi’s signature songs, including “For Hesitant Lovers,” helping to bring the performances to life. This demonstrated the potential for Jannabi’s uniquely lyrical music—long beloved in Korea—to resonate with audiences overseas as well. Rather than simply replicating their existing shows, Jannabi prepared unique sets for each city. Not only did they translate the lyrics of their songs into the local languages, but they also personally selected and performed covers of songs familiar to the local audiences. In Taipei, they performed “Chunmilmil,” while in Tokyo, they presented Seiko Matsuda’s “Sweet Memories” (SWEET MEMORIES) and Yutaka Ozaki’s “I Love You” (I LOVE YOU). In Singapore, they chose Kit Chan’s “Home.” In Hong Kong, they performed their own song “HONG KONG” on stage, creating a connection between the city and the concert. In Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, they also added different songs to their existing setlists to tailor the performances to each region. This tour is also noteworthy for confirming the potential of band music in the Asian market, which has traditionally been dominated by K-pop idols. This is because Jannabi—who has always prioritized the music and the performance itself over intense stage performances or fandom-oriented content—expanded their reach by connecting with local audiences in seven cities. Choi Jeong-hoon also expressed surprise at the local response, which was even more enthusiastic than expected. Through his agency, he stated, “I never in my wildest dreams imagined that so many local fans would be waiting for us in every city,” adding, “It was a miracle, and I’m so grateful.” He also thanked the fans who had joined the tour from Korea, saying, “I want to repay them with even stronger and more meaningful love.” The enthusiasm they witnessed in Asia will carry over to Seoul. Jannabi will hold their second solo concert at the KSPO DOME in Seoul Olympic Park from October 23 to 25. Following their debut at the KSPO DOME last year with “All Boys and Girls 2125,” they will once again take the same stage. Choi Jung-hoon and Kim Do-hyung previewed the upcoming concert, saying, “We’re preparing a setlist that’s even fresher and more diverse.” For Jannabi, who expanded their reach beyond Korea to connect with international audiences through their first Asian tour, this second KSPO DOME concert is expected to be more than just a return—it will serve as a stage to showcase their expanded sphere of activity.
