[Edaily Reporter Kim Kyung-eun ] Amid volatile stock prices for SamsungElectronics(005930)and SK hynix(000660), a bond-mixed exchange-traded fund (ETF) that includes both stocks has reportedly delivered solid returns. Analysts say the strategy—which tracks the growth potential of the semiconductor sector while reducing the investment burden of individual stocks during volatile market conditions—has proven effective.

According to KB Asset Management, the “RISE SamsungElectronics SK hynix Bond-Mixed 50 ETF” recorded a daily return volatility of 4.75% over the past 20 business days. Compared to the daily return volatility of 7.91% for SamsungElectronics and 9.39% for SK hynix during the same period, the ETF’s fluctuations were relatively modest. On the 20th, while SK hynix’s stock price fell 7.6%, the net asset value of the RISE SamsungElectronics SK hynix Bond Mixed 50 ETF actually rose by 1.1%.

The RISE SamsungElectronics-SK hynix Bond-Mixed 50 ETF is a bond-mixed ETF that allocates 25% each to SamsungElectronics and SK hynix, with the remaining 50% invested in high-quality bonds such as short-term government bonds. It is characterized by investing in the growth potential of these two stocks while allocating half of its assets to bonds, thereby reducing exposure to stock market volatility. As of today, its net assets stand at approximately 4.08 trillion won, making it the largest bond-mixed ETF in Korea.

Bond-mixed ETFs can be included in retirement pension (DC/IRP) accounts up to 100%, regardless of the 70% limit on investments in risky assets. They are particularly useful for investors who want to invest in the growth potential of the semiconductor sector through pension accounts while managing portfolio volatility. The RISE SamsungElectronics-SK hynix Bond-Mixed 50 ETF has a total expense ratio of 0.01% per year, minimizing the cost burden associated with long-term investments.

Yook Dong-hwi, Head of the ETF Product Marketing Division at KB Asset Management, said, “Expectations for a revaluation of SamsungElectronics and SK hynix are rising as improvements in the semiconductor industry align with expanded shareholder returns,” adding, “The RISE SamsungElectronics SK hynix Bond-Mixed 50 ETF will serve as an effective investment alternative for investors who want to invest in semiconductor growth while reducing the volatility associated with individual stocks.”
