[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] The KOSPI, which opened higher on the 27th, is seeing its gains narrow slightly during the session following the Bank of Korea’s announcement of a benchmark interest rate hike.

According to MP Doctor, the KOSPI opened at 6,996.12, up 187.19 points (2.76%) from the previous trading day, and as of 1:41 p.m., it is trading at 6,898.27, up 90.06 points (1.32%).
So far today, retail investors are the only group showing net selling on the KOSPI market, totaling 1.6789 trillion won, while foreign and institutional investors are net buyers of 77 billion won and 356.9 billion won, respectively. By trading type, combined arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades show a net buying position of 129.5 billion won.
Earlier, the KOSPI opened higher, led by the semiconductor sector, on news of record-breaking earnings from NVIDIA, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor stock. NVIDIA announced that revenue for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027 (May–July) reached $96.22 billion (approximately 133.3147 trillion Hanwha won), up 106% year-over-year and 18% quarter-over-quarter. Driven by explosive demand for AI semiconductors, the company set a new record for revenue for the 13th consecutive quarter, exceeding Wall Street’s consensus estimate of $92.27 billion—as compiled by financial data provider FactSet—by approximately $4 billion.
However, the stock price rapidly gave up its gains following news that the Bank of Korea’s Monetary Policy Committee raised the benchmark interest rate to 3%, marking the second consecutive hike. The KOSPI, which had been aiming to reclaim the 7,000 level, fell back to the 6,840 mark and settled at a slightly higher level, but recovered to a gain of around 1% thanks to buying pressure from foreign and institutional investors.
At the same time, SamsungElectronics(005930)and SK hynix(000660)also saw their gains narrow. SamsungElectronics traded at 266,000 won, up 4,500 won (1.72%) from the previous trading day, while SK hynix traded at 1,735,000 won, up 47,000 won (2.78%), with both stocks seeing their gains halved compared to early in the session.
