The Korean Film Council (KOFIC), together with the Korean Broadcasting Actors’ Union and the National Film Industry Labor Union, held a joint agreement signing ceremony on the 27th to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in the audiovisual industry.
The ceremony was attended by KOFIC Chairman Han Sang-jun, Korean Broadcasting Actors’ Union Secretary-General Song Chang-gon, National Film Industry Labor Union Chairman Ahn Byung-ho, and other key officials from each organization.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was established to revitalize the utilization of talent in the film and video industry, which has been facing difficulties due to the recent contraction of the production and investment environment. By establishing a system for information sharing and cooperation among the organizations, the parties plan to substantially expand acting and employment opportunities for actors and staff.
Under the agreement, the three organizations plan to: △ share information on union members and utilize talent pools to revitalize video production and support casting; △ engage in policy cooperation to create a stable employment environment for actors and staff within the video industry and promote mutual growth; △ carry out joint projects and promotional activities to advance South Korea’s video culture and the public interest; and △ actively cooperate in other areas requiring mutual collaboration.
In particular, they plan to strengthen the link between on-set production demands and the workforce—including actors and staff—to support smooth casting and the matching of specialized personnel. Through this, they aim to pool their efforts to expand on-set job opportunities and establish a sustainable, virtuous cycle for the film and video industry.
Han Sang-jun, Chairman of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), stated, “For the sustainable development of the film industry, it is essential not only to foster creative capabilities but also to provide an environment where actors and staff can work with stability,” adding, “Through this agreement, we will work closely together to ensure that on-site talent and production demands are organically connected, thereby opening up more creative opportunities.”
Song Chang-gon, Secretary-General of the Broadcasting Actors’ Union, said, “In an environment where the boundaries between broadcasting and film are blurring, we hope this agreement will serve as an opportunity to broaden the scope of activities for talented actors,” adding, “We will actively cooperate to create an environment where actors can work stably in line with changes in the industry.”
Ahn Byeong-ho, Chair of the Film Industry Union, remarked, “Great works begin with an environment where on-set workers can continue to work,” adding, “The Film Industry Union will convey the voices from the field and continue to communicate to ensure that the revitalization of production and the improvement of working conditions go hand in hand.”
The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) stated, “We plan to foster a healthy audiovisual industry ecosystem by expanding cooperation with various stakeholders in the field and strengthening policy support across all aspects of production, human resources, and employment.”
