During a TikTok live broadcast on the 5th, MC Mong bowed his head and said, “I apologize once again for causing misunderstandings regarding Kim Min-jong.”
He reported that he had met with Kim Min-jong in person to talk. MC Mong said, “We met and talked, and we cleared up the misunderstanding,” adding, “Min-jong also gave me a warm hug.”
When a viewer watching the broadcast asked whether Kim Min-jong had engaged in illegal gambling, MC Mong replied that they had met in person and cleared up the misunderstanding. He added, “From now on, I will accept whatever articles are published regarding me.”
Previously, in May, during a live broadcast on his social media, MC Mong mentioned Kim Min-jong by name while raising allegations of illegal gambling against Mr. Cha, the uncle of Cha Ga-won, chairman of One Hundred Label. At the time, he claimed, “There is a person who receives tens of millions of won in tips while engaging in illegal online gambling at nightclubs,” and asserted, “That person is the celebrity Kim Min-jong.”
The day after the broadcast, Kim Min-jong immediately denied the allegations through his legal representative, the law firm Okims. He stated, “I would like to make it clear that the claims currently being made about me are not true.”
Subsequently, Kim Min-jong’s side announced on the 2nd that they had filed a complaint against MC Mong with the Jongno Police Station in Seoul on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. (defamation).
Kim Min-jong’s representatives argued, “As these allegations spread through the media and online, the reputation and trust I have built over approximately 38 years since my debut in 1988 have been severely damaged,” adding, “We have also suffered tangible losses, such as the suspension of discussions regarding my upcoming Hollywood project—which was in concrete negotiations at the time—and two advertising contracts.”
They continued, “We can no longer tolerate the damage caused by claims that are clearly at odds with the facts,” adding, “We plan to cooperate fully with the investigation to clarify the facts and will sequentially take necessary legal measures, including filing a civil claim for damages.”
Amid this, MC Mong revealed that after news of the complaint broke, he met with Kim Min-jong in person to apologize and clear up the misunderstanding. Attention is now focused on how Kim Min-jong’s side will proceed with legal actions, including the complaint, moving forward.
