[Edaily Starin JOO MEE_HEE Reporter] Singer Jeong Mi-jo shared an update on her current situation, revealing that she has suspended her painting work due to eye health issues. She also shared an anecdote about a time in the past when she was unexpectedly embroiled in a scandal involving the late André Kim and went to a newspaper office in person to lodge a complaint.

On the episode of MBN’s “Kim Ju-ha’s Day & Night” that aired on the 5th, singers Song Chang-sik and Jeong Mi-jo appeared as guests and shared various stories.
On the show, Jeong Mi-jo began by explaining why she appeared on the broadcast wearing sunglasses. Kim Ju-ha asked, “You seemed concerned that appearing on camera wearing sunglasses might be considered impolite to viewers,” and inquired if there was a specific reason.
Jeong Mi-jo confessed, “It’s because I’ve been aging for a few years now,” adding, “Bright light makes it a bit difficult for me. Since there’s a lot of lighting on the show, I have no choice but to wear sunglasses.”
She also mentioned that as her eyesight has deteriorated, she’s been facing difficulties with her long-standing painting practice. When Song Chang-sik asked if she still paints these days, Jeong Mi-jo replied, “That’s why I haven’t been able to paint. My eyes have become a bit troublesome,” adding, “Still, I kept painting until a few years ago.”
Jeong Mi-jo has been active not only as a singer but also as a Western-style painter and university professor. She debuted in 1972 with “Gaeyeo-ul” and dominated the 1970s music scene with hit songs such as “Whistle,” “Spark,” and “Longing Thoughts,” while also drawing attention for her unique and sophisticated stage style.
In particular, she maintained a close relationship with the late André Kim throughout her life. They built a long-standing friendship, and from the beginning of her career, she enjoyed wearing outfits designed by André Kim. However, their close relationship once escalated into an unexpected scandal.
When Kim Ju-ha asked about that scandal, Jeong Mi-jo recalled, “I was so angry that I went to the newspaper office.”
Jeong Mi-jo explained, “There were a lot of people at the newspaper office, but I was so angry that I shouted, ‘How could such a scandal possibly arise between the designer and me?’” She added, “I conveyed how unfair I felt at the time due to those baseless rumors.
She said that after protesting in person, she even received an apology from the newspaper. Jeong Mi-jo said, “They practically dragged me into a quiet room and apologized, saying they were truly sorry.”
Upon hearing this, Kim Ju-ha empathized with the reality of the entertainment industry, where celebrities suffer from false rumors, saying, “In my experience, people say, ‘There’s no smoke without fire,’ but in the entertainment industry, there really is smoke.”
