[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] Director Christopher Nolan’s film “The Martian” has surpassed 10.11 million cumulative viewers and is hot on the heels of “Interstellar”’s domestic box office record. With steady audience turnout continuing even after surpassing the 10-million-viewer mark, the film is on the verge of setting yet another record in the all-time box office rankings. Its cumulative audience count soared to 10,115,354. As a result, “The Odyssey” has narrowed the gap with “Interstellar”—which has a cumulative total of 10,275,484 viewers—to 160,130. If the current trend in audience turnout continues, it is highly likely that “The Odyssey” will surpass “Interstellar’s” record in the near future. It is particularly noteworthy that the film’s box office momentum has shown little sign of slowing even after surpassing the symbolic milestone of 10 million viewers. While it is not uncommon for major blockbusters to see a slowdown in audience growth around the 10-million mark, *The Odyssey* has continued to maintain a top position in the daily box office rankings, demonstrating its potential for a long-term run. “Obsession” took second place at the box office, while “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” ranked third. “Sing Again” followed in fourth place and “Gyeongju Journey” in fifth, rounding out the top five. The outlook for future box office performance is also bright. “The Odyssey” has held onto the top spot in advance ticket sales despite the onslaught of new releases. As of 8:30 a.m. on the 8th, advance ticket sales stood at 207,460 tickets, maintaining such strong pre-release demand that it’s hard to believe the film has already surpassed 10 million viewers. This advance ticket sales trend indicates that breaking *Interstellar*’s record is more than just a possibility. With the cumulative audience difference between the two films standing at only about 160,000, and *Odyssey* having secured over 200,000 advance tickets, attention is now focused on when the two films will swap positions in the rankings.
