SOS LAB Co., Ltd. announced on the 8th that it has signed a contract with the Gyeongbuk IT Convergence Industry Technology Institute for a “Smart Parking Lot Construction” project.

The core of this project is the implementation of SOS LAB Co., Ltd.’s LiDAR-based parking guidance solution, “LPGS (LiDAR Parking Guidance System) SPOT,” at two public parking lots within the Gyeongsan Smart City. SOS LAB Co., Ltd. plans to complete the system installation by the end of this year and integrate it with Gyeongsan City’s integrated platform in the future.
LPGS SPOT is a solution that uses LiDAR to detect the presence of vehicles and gather spatial information for each parking space in real time, then links the collected data to the parking lot’s operational system and guidance platform. The goal of this project is to provide citizens with information on available parking spaces by determining vehicle occupancy in real time, thereby enhancing user convenience and improving the efficiency of space management.
Since LiDAR uses light to precisely recognize the surrounding environment and the positions of objects, it can reliably detect vehicles not only during the day and night but also in adverse weather conditions such as rain and fog. Another key feature is that it employs a non-identifiable method using 3D spatial data rather than camera footage, ensuring that no personal information—such as users’ faces—is collected.
Previously, SOS LAB Co., Ltd. partnered with KoreaAirportService to introduce LPGS SPOT at major airports in Korea, thereby establishing its capability to implement the system in large-scale outdoor parking lots. Building on this project in Gyeongsan City, the company plans to expand its scope from airports to public parking lots and smart cities, and to strengthen its push into the public smart infrastructure market.
The strength of SOS LAB Co., Ltd.’s solution lies in its integration of parking space information with autonomous driving technology, going beyond simply detecting and guiding users to available parking spaces. Recently, the world’s first “LiDAR-based parking last-mile service,” powered by SOS LAB Co., Ltd.’s solution, was launched, introducing a new mobility service model that spans the entire process from entry to parking.
In the smart infrastructure sector—including smart cities and AI-powered smart factories—the seamless integration of field data collected by sensors with AI and operational platforms is considered a key competitive advantage. LiDAR is a sensor that converts the movements of physical spaces, people, vehicles, and equipment into precise data, making it a core asset for implementing spatial intelligence—the ability of AI to recognize and interpret the real world.
Recently, the development of smart cities—which apply AI and data technologies to transportation and public facility operations—has been gaining momentum both domestically and internationally. According to global market research firm MarketandMarket, the global smart city market is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 15.2%, expanding to $1.1144 trillion by 2028. As urbanization and population concentration accelerate, large-scale infrastructure investments are expected to continue for transportation, energy, housing, and data-driven urban operations.
SOS LAB Co., Ltd. official stated, “Based on the business experience we’ve gained at major domestic airports, we are expanding the scope of our LiDAR spatial intelligence solutions to include public parking lots and smart cities,” adding, “We will continue to secure commercialization cases in the domestic smart infrastructure market while also achieving tangible results in our expansion into overseas markets and the last-mile autonomous driving sector.”
