[E-Daily Reporter Kang Min-koo ] kakaopay(377300), which has been building an infrastructure system for the distribution of digital assets, has conducted a proof of concept (PoC) for its digital asset wallet technology.
(Source: kakaopay) This proof-of-concept was conducted to evolve kakaopay’s existing wallet system—used by its 43 million users to hold prepaid funds (kakaopay Money)—into an integrated digital asset wallet capable of holding on-chain assets such as stablecoins.
Kakao Group validated technologies for transferring, paying, and settling digital assets—including stablecoins—within kakaopay’s high-traffic wallet environment, built a user interface, and demonstrated a framework for expanding distribution infrastructure.
Kakao Group plans to demonstrate its wallet technology within an infrastructure environment that encompasses not only payments but also banking, thereby laying the groundwork for implementing the group’s distribution use cases.
Armed with this validated wallet technology, Kakao Group will also work to promote the construction of distribution infrastructure not only for itself but for the entire domestic digital asset ecosystem.
Kakao Group recognizes that the challenge lies in developing and operating a stablecoin distribution system tailored to the emerging regulatory framework and the specific circumstances of each company. Based on technology validated within domestic payment and banking networks, the group plans to provide digital wallet solutions optimized for the needs of adopting companies and domestic regulatory requirements.
In particular, to reduce the burden and risk that partner institutions face during the infrastructure adoption process, the group will offer a bundled package combining proven wallet technology with customized consulting services.
In addition, the group plans to continue discussions on cooperation with major domestic companies and financial institutions that are considering the adoption of digital assets, such as won-pegged stablecoins.
Shinwon, CEO of kakaopay and co-head of the Group’s Stablecoin Task Force, stated, “The value of digital assets, such as stablecoins, will be realized not just at the time of issuance, but during the circulation phase when the assets are actually used.” He added, “Leveraging Kakao Group’s distribution potential, we will establish leadership through our infrastructure technologies—such as wallets—and our experience in regulatory compliance, and work with various partners to ensure the successful establishment and revitalization of the domestic digital asset ecosystem.”
