On the episode of SBS Plus and ENA’s “I’m Single” that aired on the 9th, the single men and women of Season 33 participated in “Hand-in-Hand Random Dates” to fulfill their romantic fantasies, while the “Choices Made by the Single Men 7 Hours Ago” were revealed, causing the love lines to shift.
Young-soo and Soon-ja, matched through the “Random Date,” first went on Soon-ja’s dream “picnic mat date.” The two set up a picnic mat outdoors and ate drinks and snacks while awkwardly holding hands. At one point, Young-soo was so focused on eating bread with one hand that, even when Soon-ja said, “The wind is cold,” he replied, “Oh, you must be cold. That’s why I wore a jacket today,” making Soon-ja burst out laughing.
Even after returning to their lodgings, Young-soo continued to show his instinctive love for food. He took the sweet and sour pork he’d left over from his “Lonely Meal” the previous day out of the freezer and ate it, and wiped his mouth with a banana peel, making Soon-ja laugh nonstop. This boosted Young-soo’s confidence, and in a later interview, he expressed hopeful thoughts, saying, “I felt like there might be a chance.” On the other hand, Soon-ja revealed that she wasn’t thinking rationally, saying, “I wondered, ‘Is this really a date?’”
Hyun-sook and Sang-cheol went on a “flower-viewing date,” which had been Hyun-sook’s dream. The two naturally held hands and got to know each other’s professions, career paths, and where they lived. After the date, Hyun-sook said in an interview, “It seems like our circumstances don’t really match up. Not only the area, but I don’t think we’d have much in common professionally either.”
After returning to the dorm following her “random date” with Gwang-su, Jeong-suk went straight to her room and lay down. In an interview, she seemed dejected, saying, “I’d already given up, so I didn’t have any expectations,” and “I don’t think anyone is interested in me.” On the other hand, Young-sik, who had been lying in his room after his “random date” with Young-ja, suddenly got up and went to the women’s dorm. He asked Ok-soon out first, and she left the dorm with a bright expression. However, when they were alone, Young-sik replied to Ok-soon’s question, “Am I among the people you’re currently interested in?” with, “To be honest, I wasn’t.” After their conversation ended, Ok-soon revealed her mixed feelings in an interview, saying, “It started with excitement but ended with just thoughts.”
Later, the choices made by the single men before the dates were revealed. Young-soo and Young-ho chose Soon-ja, Young-sik chose Young-ja, and Young-cheol chose Jeong-sook, while Gwang-soo and Sang-cheol went to Ok-soon. On the other hand, Young-sook and Hyun-sook received zero votes. Immediately afterward, Hyun-sook felt left out when she overheard the other couples’ conversations, and Young-sook also went back to her room without even touching her “Loneliness Set.” Hyun-sook followed Young-sook back to the lodge. The two comforted each other, but Hyun-sook burst into tears, perhaps overcome by her sorrow. In an interview, she confessed, “It was the result I expected. Still, it was upsetting because it really brought home my status as a single woman,” she confessed. Hyun-sook then mentioned Gwang-soo, who had been very considerate toward her, saying, “It’s not exactly romantic attraction, but as a potential spouse, he seems perfect,” leaving the door open to a possible relationship.

Later, during their “one-on-one conversation,” Young-soo tried to highlight his charm by saying, “I’m a serious and thoughtful person,” but Soon-ja replied, “What’s more important than that is having a good rapport,” and asked, “It’s getting late, so please call Young-ho (her next conversation partner).” Young-soo expressed his disappointment at this. In the subsequent interview, he said, “I felt like Sun-ja had drawn a line with me. I’ll just move on from this,” and gave up on her.
On the other hand, Sun-ja became much more candid when she met Young-ho again. She revealed, “It’s a bit cringey, but honestly, (during the ‘romantic date’ with Young-soo earlier) I thought about Young-ho a little.” In an interview after the date, Young-ho laughed and said, “My dopamine was just flooding. Right now, I want to choose Sun-ja as my final choice.” Jeong-sook had a serious conversation about life with Young-cheol. Young-cheol shared, “Because of my family’s difficult financial situation when I was young, I had to earn my own living expenses after paying my college tuition, and at one point, I even held five part-time jobs a day.” Jeong-sook expressed her “respect” for his resilience, but feeling a bit disappointed upon realizing she had done most of the asking, she remarked, “I think questions are a measure of interest.”
After finishing his date with Ok-soon, Gwang-soo became even busier as the night wore on. He went to see Hyun-sook to apologize for his earlier choice, and subsequently asked Young-ja for a conversation as well. However, when Gwang-soo asked Young-ja who she was interested in, she replied, “There’s no one I’m particularly interested in,” and added, “You’re a year younger than me, so why do you feel so much like a younger brother?”—indicating she saw him only as a younger sibling. Meanwhile, Young-sik and Young-cheol, gathered in the men’s room, realized that their respective “people they like”—Young-sook and Jeong-sook—overlapped completely. A preview released shortly afterward hinted at the love lines becoming even more complicated as the “simultaneous selection” dates unfold.
“I’m Single” is a hyper-realistic dating show where single men and women who desperately want to get married gather to struggle to find love. It’s garnering attention as a dating program directed by Nam Gyu-hong, who also directed “Matchmaker.” The show is gaining popularity with various special episodes, such as the “Divorced Singles Special,” featuring divorced men and women, and the “Never-Dated Singles Special,” featuring men and women with no dating experience.
