[Edaily Reporter KIM YOON-JEONG ] On the 10th, the KOSPI fluctuated around the 7,000 mark throughout the trading session before closing slightly lower. Despite heightened supply-and-demand volatility on the so-called “Quadruple Witching Day”—the simultaneous expiration date for domestic futures and options contracts—and net selling by foreign investors totaling over 2.5 trillion won, buying pressure from other market participants, including other corporate entities, helped the index hold above the 7,000 mark for the second consecutive day based on the closing price.

According to MP Doctor, the KOSPI index closed at 7,033.92, down 17.72 points (0.25%) from the previous session. Following its recovery to the 7,000 level on the previous trading day—the first time in 33 days—the index maintained the 7,000 level based on the closing price again today.
By investor type, other corporations were the largest net buyers, purchasing 1.6671 trillion won. Retail investors and institutions also posted net purchases of 367.2 billion won and 511.8 billion won, respectively. In contrast, foreign investors were the sole net sellers, offloading 2.5457 trillion won worth of stocks.
Performance among the top KOSPI market cap stocks was mixed that day. SamsungElectronics(005930), the KOSPI’s top-ranked stock by market cap, closed at 269,000 won during regular trading, down 500 won (0.19%) from the previous session. Lim Jeong-eun, an analyst at KB Securities, commented, “The domestic stock market experienced volatility due to the continued pressure from rising oil prices and interest rates, compounded by the impact of futures and options expiration.” This was further compounded by supply-and-demand disruptions resulting from the regular revision of the KRX sector indices, leading to repeated intraday fluctuations.
