Samyang Chemical and SCG Invest Host Event Bringing Together Global GPs and LPs
Seven Overseas GPs Visit Korea… Connect with Domestic Family Offices and Institutional LPs
[Edaily Marketin, Reporter Soyoung Park ] Samyang Chemical Group is set to expand its venture investments through its investment arm, SCG Investment. While the group has traditionally focused on asset classes that generate stable returns, it is now expanding its scope to include joint and direct investments as it builds a track record of contributing to global venture capital (VC) funds. The group also presented a blueprint for its role in identifying new investment opportunities by connecting its network of global general partners (GPs) with domestic limited partners (LPs).

Inviting Global GPs to Foster Connections with Domestic LPs
According to SCG Investment on the 14th, the Samyang Chemical Group will host an event (Global GP & Korean LP Day 2026) from September 14 to 16, bringing together global general partners (GPs) and Korean limited partners (LPs). The event invites key partners from global venture capital firms in which SCG has invested to Korea to connect them with domestic family offices, institutional investors, and sovereign wealth funds.
To date, SCG has invested in a total of 27 global GPs. Among these, it has invited managing partners and general partners from seven VCs that have demonstrated outstanding performance based on total value-to-investment ratio (TVPI) to the event. Specifically, the following firms participated: △Greencroft △MVP Ventures △Foundation Capital △Averin △Max Ventures △FJ Labs △Collaborative Fund. The combined assets under management (AUM) of these firms total approximately $14 billion (approximately 18.8356 trillion won).
Seed Tribedi, a partner at Foundation Capital who attended the event on the 14th, said, “Foundation Capital was an early investor that provided funding to Netflix back in 1997 when it was still a video rental store. It is a firm with a strong focus on the content and consumer goods sectors, but has recently expanded its areas of interest to include fintech,” adding “We didn’t have a base in the Asia-Pacific region, but after welcoming Samyang Chemical Group as a limited partner (LP), we’ve received several introductions and are exploring the potential there.”

“We Will Gradually Increase Our Venture Investment Ratio”
SCG Investment has been exploring new investment areas that could create synergies with the group’s existing businesses. In the process, the firm began to take a closer look at the U.S. market, which offers significant market size and liquidity. The firm explained that it was also attracted by the growth process of investing in promising early-stage companies alongside U.S. GPs and accompanying them all the way through to an initial public offering (IPO).
To date, SCG has invested a cumulative total of approximately 230 billion won through the Samyang Chemical Group’s main account. Of this amount, about 70% is allocated to credit investment strategies that prioritize stable cash flow and downside protection, such as senior real estate bonds and structured credit. The remaining approximately 30% is allocated to venture capital strategies, including investments in global VC funds as well as direct and co-investments.
Park Seong-woo, CEO of Samyang Chemical Group, introduced the company by stating, “Many domestic family offices still focus on conservative investments such as bonds and credit,” adding, “We are one of the few family offices that believe VC is also an excellent means of diversification.”
SCG plans to develop this event not as a one-time occasion, but as a long-term GP-LP platform that connects domestic investors with the overseas GP network it has built through investments in global funds. In addition, the company is considering ways to foster a collaborative investment ecosystem by sharing relevant case studies with other strategic investors (SIs). In fact, SCG Invest organized a meeting to introduce the GPs visiting Korea to family and strategic investors, including △Company H △Seongdam △Kyowon Group △Hanwha Group △Hallym Pharmaceutical △ShiftUp.
Institutional investors such as Atinum Investment, Mirae Asset Capital, Woori Venture Partners, Hanwha Asset Management, and Samsung Life Insurance, as well as the Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) and Korea Venture Investment Corporation (KVIC), will also hold one-on-one meetings with the GPs. Through these efforts, SCG aims to identify practical collaboration opportunities, including not only contributions to new funds but also co-investments.
Going forward, Samyang Chemical plans to continuously diversify the asset portfolio of the group’s main account. In particular, in the venture sector, the company intends to steadily expand its global investment network through fund investments, co-investments, and direct investments.
Lee Chang-hoon, Managing Partner of SCG Investment, told Edaily, “Currently, the investment ratio across each asset class is about 7 to 3, but we plan to gradually increase the share allocated to venture investments going forward.”
