[Edaily Starin KIM HYUNSIK Reporter] KBS announced on the 15th that Psy, who sparked a global phenomenon with his hit song “Gangnam Style,” will participate as a special speaker at the “2026 Public Broadcasters International (PBI) Seoul General Assembly.” PSY (Photo courtesy of P Nation)PBI is an international consortium of public broadcasters established in 1990. It comprises approximately 60 major public media organizations worldwide, including KBS—South Korea’s sole full member—as well as the BBC (UK), NHK (Japan), Télévision France, CBC (Canada), and ABC (Australia). Through its annual general assembly, PBI discusses the public value of public media and strategies for responding to changes in the global media environment. This year’s general assembly, hosted by KBS, will be held over three days from the 14th to the 16th of next month at the Fairmont Ambassador Seoul and the National Museum of Korea. PSY, who will participate as a special speaker on the second day of the General Assembly, will discuss his experience of creating cultural content enjoyed by people around the world—transcending language and national borders—through “Gangnam Style.” He will also share his thoughts on the conditions necessary for K-pop to establish itself as a sustainable global culture beyond a passing fad, as well as the role public broadcasting should play in that process.
