[Edaily Reporter Yang Ji-yun ] Leading semiconductor stocks SamsungElectronics(005930)and SK hynix(000660)closed higher in the Korea Exchange (KRX) after-hours market.
According to MP Doctor on the 16th, SamsungElectronics closed at 253,500 won in after-hours trading—up 5,000 won (2.01%) from the previous trading day—while SK hynix closed at 1,757,000 won, up 67,000 won (3.96%).

Semiconductor-related stocks also performed strongly on the KOSDAQ market. WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)closed at 117,900 won, up 8.76% from the previous trading day, and EO Technics Co., Ltd.(039030)also rose 4.82% to 468,000 won. JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)rose 3.99%, LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)rose 2.64%, and SIMMTECH Co., Ltd.(222800)rose 2.95%.
During regular trading that day, the KOSPI closed at 6,717.97, up 90.71 points (1.37%) from the previous trading day, marking a return to positive territory after five trading days. The KOSDAQ index also rose 3.57 points (0.44%) to 815.98.
Some analysts suggest that volatility in domestic semiconductor stocks is increasing as concerns about a slowdown in artificial intelligence (AI) development coincide with rising long-term U.S. interest rates. Noh Dong-gil, an analyst at Shinhan Investment Securities, stated, “It is not yet time to lower semiconductor profit forecasts based solely on discussions about slowing down AI development,” but added, “Nor is it the right time to rush into chase buying simply because demand is strong.” He continued, “Whether the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield stabilizes following this Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting will be the first condition to consider when deciding whether to increase exposure.”
