[Edaily Reporter KIM SAE-MI ] Breeze Bio (formerly GeneEdit) has appointed experts in business development and finance/accounting as outside directors ahead of its KOSDAQ listing under the technology special listing category.
Breeze Bio announced on the 17th that it has appointed Kevin Sin as a director and Lee Chang-woo, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University’s Business School, as a new outside director. Newly appointed outside director Lee Chang-woo will also serve as chair of the Audit Committee under the board of directors.
Newly appointed outside director Kevin Sin has over 30 years of experience in business development and corporate strategy within the global pharmaceutical and biotech industries. He served as Senior Vice President of Global Business Development at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and held executive positions, including Vice President of Business Development, during his 12-year tenure at Genentech. He currently serves as Chief Financial and Business Officer (CFBO) at Altos Labs.
Director Shin majored in molecular and cellular biology at the University of California, Berkeley, and earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Newly appointed outside director Lee Chang-woo is an expert in accounting, auditing, and internal controls. He graduated from the Department of Business Administration at Seoul National University and earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley. After serving as an assistant professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business, he was a professor at Seoul National University’s Business School from 1992 to 2019 and is currently a professor emeritus. He holds both the Korean Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designations.
He has served as President of the Korean Accounting Association, Chairman of the Board of the Korean Accounting Standards Board (KASB), Head of the Management Evaluation Team for Public Enterprises and Public Institutions at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has served as Chairman of the Audit Committee at KT&G Corporation, STX, LGELECTRONICS, AEKYUNG INDUSTRIAL, Carrot Insurance, and Hanwha General Insurance Co.,Ltd., and currently serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee at SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940).
Through the appointment of this outside director, Breeze Bio plans to strengthen its business development strategy, as well as its financial, accounting, and internal control capabilities, as it prepares for a KOSDAQ listing.
Lee Geun-woo, CEO of Breeze Bio, stated, “New Director Kevin Shin’s experience in establishing pipeline strategies and building partnerships will be a significant asset as the company grows to the next level,” adding, “We also expect New Director Lee Chang-woo’s experience in accounting and auditing to contribute to our preparations for the IPO and to enhancing accounting transparency and shareholder trust in the future.”
Meanwhile, Breeze Bio is a gene therapy development company founded in 2016 by CEO Lee Geun-woo and Senior Vice President Park Hyo-min in South San Francisco, California. The company owns “NanoGalaxy,” a non-viral gene delivery platform based on hydrophilic nanoparticles. The company is currently pursuing a technology-based special listing on KOSDAQ and passed the technology evaluation last July after receiving AA and A ratings, respectively, from two specialized evaluation agencies designated by the Korea Exchange.
