[Edaily Reporter Kang Min-koo ] CONTEC Co.,Ltd(451760), a company specializing in space systems and solutions, has confirmed the potential for entering the Southeast Asian space market, including Thailand, based on its global ground station network and satellite image preprocessing capabilities.

On the 17th, CONTEC Co.,Ltd held a meeting with visiting officials from Thailand’s Geoinformation and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) at its headquarters in Daejeon to discuss cooperation plans for building space ground infrastructure and utilizing satellite data.

GISTDA is Thailand’s national space agency under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. It leads the utilization of satellite and geographic information data, including the Thai Earth Observation Satellite (THEOS) program.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to identify commercial projects in sectors with high demand in Southeast Asia—such as disaster response (including floods), water resource management, and smart cities—by utilizing satellite imagery data and artificial intelligence (AI)-based geospatial analysis technologies.

The plan is to expand the scope of space data utilization by integrating ground infrastructure for the stable collection and processing of satellite data with data analysis technologies that can be applied in both the industrial and public sectors.

The GISTDA delegation also proposed ways to expand technological exchange, such as establishing collaboration channels between private space companies in both countries and holding joint workshops to cultivate specialized talent.

The delegation also visited the Bucheon AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Test) Center operated by Asia Pacific Satellite Inc., a subsidiary of CONTEC Co.,Ltd. They toured the satellite manufacturing and testing facilities and observed the CONTEC Group’s space industry value chain, which spans from satellite manufacturing to data reception and processing via ground stations.

Lee Seong-hee, CEO of CONTEC Co.,Ltd., stated, “Thailand is a key space hub in Southeast Asia that is most actively pursuing a New Space transition policy,” adding, “We have identified various business opportunities involving the utilization of satellite data and space ground infrastructure in the Southeast Asian region, including Thailand, in collaboration with GISTDA.”
