Singer Kim Da-hyun (17) revealed this in a heartfelt post on her social media account on the 22nd.
Previously, singer Shim Su-bong (71) publicly criticized Kim Da-hyun, who had performed before her at a local event.
At the time, Shim Soo-bong said, “The girl who sang before me messed with my hair. She seems like a young lady who doesn’t know what singing is or what life is,” adding, “Listening to her sing was really exhausting for me.”
She continued, “Please don’t send ‘that performer’ (Kim Da-hyun) out before me,” adding, “Singing isn’t something to be taken so lightly. You have to gain life experience and go through hardships. Music that comforts the people who come to see us like this isn’t that easy.”
After criticism arose online that these were inappropriate remarks, Shim Su-bong issued an official apology the following day.
Shim Soo-bong stated, “It’s true that I’ve always had concerns and worries about the music industry, and on the day of the event, I was under a great deal of stress due to the noise at the venue,” adding, “However, I have no excuse—not even if I had ten mouths—for letting words that defied common sense slip out at an inappropriate moment during a trot festival where everyone should have been smiling and enjoying themselves.”
Shim Soo-bong had previously served as a judge on MBN’s *King of Active Singers*, which aired in 2023, where she evaluated Kim Da-hyun’s performance. She explained, “I didn’t know exactly who the singer performing before me was,” adding, “It was absolutely not meant to embarrass any specific person.” She continued, “Nevertheless, as an adult, it was clearly wrong of me to say something that hurt a junior singer’s feelings.”
Shim Su-bong also stated, “I have conveyed my deepest apologies to Ms. Kim Da-hyun and her family.” She continued, “During that process, my father told me that Ms. Kim Da-hyun had sung ‘A Million Roses’ while playing the piano at a concert, and when I thought about how much she must have practiced, my eyes welled up with tears,” adding, “I also express my deep regret and apologies to Ms. Kim Da-hyun, her fan club, and the event organizers.”
Kim Da-hyun, the daughter of Kim Bong-gon, recipient of the Order of Civil Merit (Cheonghak-dong), began learning pansori at the age of four and entered the trot music scene at six. She has since made a name for herself by standing out in various trot competition programs, including placing second on MBN’s “Voice Trot” and third on TV Chosun’s “Miss Trot 2.” Shim Su-bong debuted in 1978 at the MBC University Song Festival and went on to release hit songs such as “A Million Roses,” “A Man Is a Ship, a Woman Is a Harbor,” and “All I Know Is Love.”
In a heartfelt post shared that day, Kim Da-hyun wrote, “Fans, I know this situation has upset and worried you. I’ll pull myself together, so please don’t worry—let’s meet again with a bright smile. Thank you.”
