RFTECH CO., LTD announced on the 22nd that it is jointly developing antennas with Company A, a major domestic defense firm, for use in electronic warfare-based anti-drone defense systems, with the goal of commercializing drone defense systems.
The antenna being developed through this project will be installed in core equipment designed to detect signals emitted by drones, accurately identify their direction of movement, and respond accordingly. RFTECH CO., LTD plans to actively apply the expertise it has accumulated in broadband signal processing, interference control, direction finding, and radio wave control—gained through its 5G communications equipment business—to anti-drone technology.
The company aims to deliver prototypes this coming October. Following a customer validation process, it plans to conduct follow-up research while expanding its development scope beyond antennas to include compact jamming systems, thereby launching a full-scale business in portable drone defense systems.
Starting with the development of this anti-drone antenna, RFTECH CO., LTD is expanding the application of its RF technology—proven in the 5G market—to next-generation future businesses such as AI networks and 6G. This is because technologies capable of precisely detecting, filtering, and controlling radio waves are essential in all three areas: high-capacity, low-latency wireless communication in AI networks; signal detection and rejection in anti-drone systems; and ultra-high-frequency and precision beam control in 6G.
A company official explained, “As AI technology rapidly moves beyond data centers and is applied to real-life and industrial settings—such as robots, drones, and smart factories—the importance of wireless networks is growing.” The official added, “To transmit and receive the massive amounts of data generated by numerous sensors and cameras in real time, and to deliver AI control commands without delay, high uplink capacity, stable latency, and precise beam control technology are essential.”
RFTECH CO., LTD has been steadily mass-producing 5G Massive MIMO AFUs. “AI-RAN,” which is drawing attention from the global telecommunications industry, is a next-generation wireless network technology that utilizes AI to optimize spectrum resources, interference, beams, and energy usage in real time. To implement this in a real-world environment, it must be supported by high-performance RF hardware capable of simultaneously processing multiple signals while minimizing interference as much as possible.
Following the commercialization of compact RF filters in 2024, RFTECH CO., LTD is moving forward with the mass production of next-generation 5G AFUs for the North American market in 2026, thereby solidifying its experience in commercializing physical layer technologies.
In addition, the company is collaborating with clients on technology development in preparation for the 6G era. RFTECH CO., LTD is partnering with a major domestic telecommunications equipment manufacturer to develop compact RF filters compatible with candidate 6G frequency bands.
The company plans to minimize signal loss and interference arising from higher frequency bands compared to 5G and secure technology optimized for multi-band, high-density equipment. Through this, the company aims to proactively secure the design and measurement capabilities required for 6G candidate bands and higher-order Massive MIMO technology. Related research and development is being led by RFTC, the company’s RF-specialized subsidiary. RFTC is sparing no expense in investing in expanding its research workforce, upgrading its testing and measurement infrastructure, securing intellectual property rights, and conducting joint research with external specialized institutions.
RFTECH CO., LTD intends to combine RFTC’s R&D capabilities with the parent company’s expertise in serving global customers and mass production know-how to rapidly advance developed technologies from the prototype stage to customer validation and mass production.
