Having participated in the “New Classic Project” on the online video (OTT) platform Wavve for three consecutive years since 2024, 4by4 Inc. has once again applied its proprietary AI video quality enhancement solution, “AI PIXELL,” to the 4K remastering of classic masterpieces this year.

The New Classic Project is an initiative that reintroduces classic content beloved by the public in the past in high definition suited to today’s viewing environment. 4by4 Inc. has utilized AI PIXELL to analyze the video characteristics of older content and apply AI-based image quality enhancement and 4K upscaling tailored to each work.

The titles released this time include “Dae Jang Geum,” “Huh Joon,” “Lee San,” “Jang Hui-bin,” “The Immortal Yi Sun-sin,” “Eyes of Dawn,” and “The King’s First Love.” Additional content is scheduled to be released sequentially.

This remastering goes beyond simply enlarging the video to 4K; it focuses on maintaining the original’s texture and atmosphere while delivering picture quality suited for the latest high-resolution display environments.

Broadcast content produced in the past may suffer from various quality issues—such as low resolution, noise, compression-induced degradation, blurred edges, and interlacing—depending on the production era and the condition of the original footage. Since simple upscaling alone can highlight the limitations of the existing image quality, image enhancement technology tailored to the original footage is necessary.

AI PIXELL uses AI to analyze the video’s resolution, noise, edges, and details to perform upscaling, noise reduction, and enhancements to sharpness and detail. Unlike generative AI, which creates new people, objects, or textures, this is a non-generative AI technology that improves image quality based on the information already present in the original video.

A key feature of this technology is its ability to enhance image quality while preserving the original work’s visual characteristics—such as the actors’ faces, costumes, sets, and textures present at the time of filming—to the greatest extent possible.

4by4 Inc. is expanding AI PIXELL—which has been used in the broadcasting and OTT sectors—into software that individuals and professional video creators can use directly.

Additionally, the on-device software “AI PIXELL PRO” supports Windows. Once purchased, it can be used permanently without additional subscription fees, and there are no limits on video length or the number of processing sessions. All AI processing takes place on the user’s local PC.
