“From Yutnori to Art Appreciation”… Retail Sector Offers a Wealth of Hands-On Events for Chuseok

[Edaily Reporter SHIN MIN JOON ] The retail industry is hosting a variety of experiential events in celebration of Chuseok, Korea’s major national holiday. From the traditional game of yutnori to art exhibitions, customers can enjoy events tailored to their tastes and schedules.

According to the retail industry on the 25th, HYUNDAIDEPARTMENTSTORECO.,LTD(069960)is hosting the “Edit Dept, Neo Local” pop-up store on the B1 level of The Hyundai Seoul through the 30th. This pop-up is distinguished by its operation as an exhibition and experiential space designed to showcase local brands with both online and offline presence, rather than simply selling regional specialties or souvenirs as in the past.
A total of about 20 brands across fashion, beauty, home goods, and food are participating. The pop-up space will feature products that embody each brand’s local story. Participants include artist So Dong-ho, whose “Seoul Street Chairs” are a craft-inspired reinterpretation of Seoul’s street benches; Kiim Studio, which reimagines Daegu’s traditional “nubim” quilting technique in modern handbags; and Go Tae, which has reborn the curved beauty of traditional Korean hats into tableware.
In addition, NERD, a fermented beverage brand that reinterprets traditional Korean liquor with a modern sensibility, will host a tasting event. Premium brewing brand Dutch Lab will showcase “local coffee” made by pairing coffee beans from across the country at its store on the second basement level.
#Shinsegae Co.,Ltd is also operating an experiential pop-up store with the K-Beauty brand Joseon Minyeo in the pop-up zone on the 10th floor of its Myeongdong store through the 30th.
Ahead of Chuseok, this pop-up will feature a customer participation event based on “Yutnori,” a traditional Korean board game. Customers can throw the Yut sticks themselves and receive Joseon Minyeo products or brand merchandise depending on where their piece lands. The number of participation opportunities varies based on the purchase amount.
Customers who purchase $30 (approximately 40,000 won) or more in Joseon Beauty products can participate 5 times, and those who spend $60 (approximately 80,000 won) or more can participate 11 times. Visitors who post proof of their visit on social media after visiting the pop-up will receive one additional chance to participate. Prizes include △Clear Rice Sunscreen △Centella Vita Serum △Ginseng Eye Cream △Ginseng Essence Water, among others. All participating customers will receive a prize.
Hyundai Duty Free is hosting the immersive exhibition “EcoSync: Presented Again, Up Close” at its Trade Center branch through the 12th of next month. This exhibition was created in collaboration with the biophilic design studio Sumu as part of the 2026 Arts Startup Leap Support Project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center.
The exhibition features spatial content designed to offer visitors an experience of reconnecting with nature amid their busy daily lives. In particular, a media wall utilizing generative AI technology presents a new natural landscape every day. It provides an immersive experience distinct from conventional exhibitions through videos capturing the changing states of plants.
During the exhibition period, a hands-on sachet-making workshop and welcome gifts will be available in limited quantities. The exhibition is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with extended hours until 8:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
