For Severe Traffic Jams: “Scandal” and “Field Mouse”

The Korea Transport Institute and the Korea Expressway Corporation estimate that 30.93 million people will be on the move during this holiday. Traffic is expected to be heaviest on the morning of the 24th as people head home for the holiday; the journey from Seoul to Busan is projected to take up to 10 hours and 30 minutes, and from Seoul to Mokpo, 10 hours and 45 minutes. With that much time, you could easily watch a 10-episode series.
Released last month, “Field Mouse” is a 10-episode Netflix series. The total runtime of the 10 episodes is 9 hours and 26 minutes. As a suspense thriller following novelist Moon Jae (played by Ryu Jun-yeol)—who has had his name, face, and entire life stolen by the mysterious figure known as “Field Mouse”—loan shark No Ja (played by Seol Kyung-gu), who is trying to recover his lost money, and Detective Soon-yong (played by Lee Kyu-hyung) as they hunt for the Field Mouse’s true identity, it promises an immersive experience that will make you forget the traffic congestion.
Although it has been more than three months since its release, the Netflix series *True Education* is also worth binge-watching. *True Education* consists of 10 episodes, with a total runtime of 10 hours and 36 minutes. If your estimated viewing time exceeds 10 hours, “True Education” is an excellent choice. “True Education” tells the story of the Bureau for the Protection of Teachers’ Rights—an agency established to defend South Korea’s educational system and teachers’ authority, which have been undermined by students, teachers, and parents who cross the line—and their satisfying and refreshing approach to “true education.” Having topped global charts and gained popularity both domestically and internationally, this is a great opportunity to rediscover why this series has become such a hit.
The Netflix series “Scandal,” starring Son Ye-jin and Ji Chang-wook, consists of eight episodes totaling 7 hours and 42 minutes, and is well worth watching as it’s a recently released hit. “Scandal” is a remake of the 2003 film “Scandal: The Passion of a Joseon Couple.” It tells the story of a daring and dangerous love bet between Lady Jo (played by Son Ye-jin)—a woman with exceptional talent who feels confined by her role as a woman in the Joseon Dynasty—and Jo Won (played by Ji Chang-wook), the greatest ladies’ man in Joseon, as well as the story of Hee-yeon (played by Nana), a woman entangled in that wager. However, due to the high level of nudity, it is not recommended for family viewing.

For short commutes: “Even Lottery Winners Go to Work” or variety shows

When your commute is short, it’s worth checking out series that haven’t yet concluded. Tving’s “Even Lottery Winners Go to Work,” released on the 10th, is an office drama about Team Leader Gong Eun-tae (played by Lee Jun-hyuk), a typical office worker who was struggling to get by day to day, only to win the lottery jackpot. Instead of handing in his resignation, he returns to work with a new mindset and 1.3 billion won in prize money. It’s a story that combines the dream-like scenario of winning the lottery with the realities of office life. Four episodes have been released so far, with a total runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes.
If you’re looking to dive into a slightly longer series, Disney+’s “Made in Korea Season 2” is also worth watching. “Made in Korea Season 2” runs for 6 hours and 18 minutes. It tells the story of Baek Ki-tae (played by Hyun Bin), who stands at the pinnacle of power; Jang Geon-young (played by Jung Woo-sung), who has been preparing his counterattack; and Baek Ki-hyun (played by Woo Do-hwan), who is heading toward a different kind of power than his older brother—as their ever-growing ambitions run rampant, shaking the entire landscape with irreversible rifts.

“Office Workers” is another Coupang Play staple that’s perfect for killing time. This hyper-realistic, improvised sitcom features employees of DY Planning moving in and out of the office, delivering a barrage of laughter made even more vivid by their genuine laughs and authentic vibes. Each episode runs 40–50 minutes, and since different guests appear in each episode to present new stories, you can simply watch the episodes you want.
