Existing hair loss prediction methods have primarily relied on invasive procedures, such as genetic testing or microbiome analysis, which require the direct collection of biological samples, thus limiting consumer accessibility. To address this issue, COSMAX, INC. developed a non-invasive alopecia areata prediction model by training its AI on approximately 22 million data points from national health screening big data in South Korea and Japan.
The AI model comprehensively analyzes 33 key variables, including not only physiological and medical indicators such as blood pressure and liver enzyme levels but also demographic and socioeconomic indicators. A key feature of the system is that it analyzes lifestyle from multiple angles, based on the understanding that hair loss results from a complex interplay of individual environmental and sociopsychological factors.
COSMAX, INC. has piloted this algorithm on its personalized beauty platform, “BYNIQ.” As a result, the company has established a system that provides data-driven, hyper-personalized services: if a medical questionnaire predicts a low risk of alopecia areata, the system recommends products based on “SOYACT”—a non-notified functional ingredient for hair loss relief—while for those with a high risk, it suggests solutions containing the premium ingredient “GANOXYL.”
COSMAX, INC. is expanding the scope of its hair care research globally. In a recent “Multiracial Scalp Lipid Profile Analysis Study,” the company conducted a detailed analysis of targeted scalp lipids from 387 participants of East Asian, European, and African descent, classifying scalp types into three categories. Based on this, the company defined race-specific lipid structures and vulnerability-inducing factors, while also identifying common lipid conditions that exacerbate scalp environments associated with hair loss, regardless of race.
