The Galaxy Smart Tag 3 is a mobile device that can be attached to personal items such as keys or bags, as well as pets, to track their location. The new product is approximately 35% smaller and 33% lighter than its predecessor. It features a design with rounded corners and an aluminum button.

For the first time in the Galaxy Smart Tag series, it is compatible not only with Galaxy devices but also with iOS devices. Previously, users could only check and share the tag’s location on Galaxy devices supporting SmartThings Find, but starting with the Smart Tag 3, location tracking and sharing are now possible on iOS devices as well.

The close-range search functionality has also been enhanced. By utilizing Bluetooth 6.0’s “Channel Sounding” technology, users can check the tag’s direction and distance via “Compass View” from up to 60 meters away, depending on the surrounding environment. The search range has increased by about three times compared to the previous model.

As you get closer to the tag, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology is used to pinpoint its location more precisely. For example, if you lose your keys in a park, you can use Compass View to check the approximate direction within 60 meters, and as you get within 20 meters, UWB is used to locate the exact position.

If you move out of the range of a direct connection to your smartphone, the “Galaxy Find Network” takes over. According to SamsungElectronics, more than 900 million Galaxy devices worldwide are currently connected to this network. Nearby Galaxy devices detect the tag’s signal to help pinpoint its location.

Notification features have also been expanded. The ‘Get Notifications from Set Locations’ feature sends alerts when the tag enters or exits a specific area designated by the user. It also offers a feature that notifies the user if movement is detected after the connection between the smartphone and the tag is lost, as well as a ‘Location History’ feature that allows users to check the tag’s movement path.

The tag uses a single replaceable CR2032 battery. Under normal usage conditions, it lasts up to 550 days, and up to 790 days in power-saving mode. It also features IP67-rated water and dust resistance.

When the NFC-based Lost Mode is enabled, anyone who finds the tag can scan it with an NFC-enabled device to view the contact information or message registered by the user. Pressing the tag’s button can also trigger pre-set SmartThings functions, such as turning off the power at home or closing the curtains.

The Galaxy SmartTag 3 will be released sequentially in global markets, starting in South Korea on the 7th. It comes in two colors—white and black—and is priced at 44,000 won.

Kim Jeong-hyun, Executive Vice President and Head of the CX Division at SamsungElectronics’ MX Business Division, said, “The Galaxy Smart Tag 3 packs a wide range of features into a compact design,” adding, “It even enables precise location tracking through the powerful Galaxy Find Network.”
