[Edaily Reporter Yun Junghoon ] Amid a surge in demand for medical services driven by the transition to a super-aged society and the increasing number of patients with chronic diseases, KTCorporation(030200)has unveiled a “Medical Standard Model” designed to drive productivity improvements and management innovation in hospitals. The company plans to lead the digital transformation of general hospitals nationwide by offering a customized AX (AI Transformation) package that encompasses everything from communication infrastructure to data platforms and AI services.

KTCorporation announced on the 1st that it will begin full-scale collaboration with tertiary and general hospitals nationwide based on the “Healthcare Standard Model,” which is tailored to the specific needs of each hospital.

Surge in Healthcare Demand… Aligning with the Government’s ‘Basic AI Healthcare Strategy’

The domestic healthcare sector is facing a period of major upheaval due to demographic shifts. By 2026, the proportion of the population aged 65 and older is expected to reach approximately 21%, marking the country’s entry into a super-aged society. Meanwhile, the burden on the healthcare system is rising sharply, with medical expenses for chronic diseases accounting for 80% of total medical costs as of 2024.

In response, the government announced the “AI Basic Healthcare Strategy” in August through a joint effort by relevant ministries and is now pursuing the elimination of gaps in regional, essential, and public healthcare, as well as the nationwide expansion of AI healthcare infrastructure, as national priorities.

In particular, addressing the fragmentation of data generated at each stage of hospital operations—from patient intake and registration to diagnostic testing, treatment and procedures, administrative and billing processes, and post-discharge care—has emerged as a top priority. This is because data dispersion and disconnects lead not only to patient inconvenience but also to excessive workloads and reduced productivity among medical staff.

Through customer analysis targeting KTCorporation medical staff and management, KTCorporation identified key areas for AX application and, based on this, systematized three standard healthcare models designed to support: △ improving the patient care experience; △ enhancing the quality of care and convenience for medical staff; and △ streamlining hospital operations.

From 24-hour AI assistants to electronic medical record (EMR) automation

KTCorporation’s healthcare standard models are focused on significantly enhancing convenience for both patients and medical staff.

First, to improve the patient care experience, KT is introducing an “AI Patient Assistant.” An AI voice bot automatically responds to inquiries 24 hours a day and assists with appointment scheduling based on symptom classification, as well as post-discharge care guidance. In the first quarter of next year, KT plans to add a medical knowledge-based RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) feature to further refine the quality of responses.

To optimize the workflow for medical staff, the company is building a nursing and operating room scheduling agent along with a “Medical Data Platform.” This platform standardizes, collects, and integrates Electronic Medical Records (EMR), medical images, and test and research data, while providing a one-stop solution for building AI training datasets and creating development and validation environments.

The “Clinical Administration Agent,” responsible for streamlining hospital operations, automatically generates medical notes by recognizing and analyzing conversations between medical staff and patients in real time. Since these notes are integrated into the EMR and testing/prescription systems following approval by medical staff, this reduces the administrative burden associated with the entire process—from creating medical records to placing orders and submitting claims.

Going forward, KTCorporation plans to expand this standard model to include diagnostic and image interpretation support by combining solutions from specialized medical partners with hybrid cloud and GPU computing infrastructure.

Notable examples include the “AI Cancer Diagnosis CDSS (Clinical Decision Support System),” which provides evidence-based treatment recommendations based on integrated clinical and imaging data, and “AI Endoscopy Interpretation,” which analyzes real-time endoscopic images to improve lesion detection rates. Building on this, KT plans to participate in the government’s AI-specialized hospital initiative to expand the scope of pilot applications.

Furthermore, KTCorporation is reorganizing its specialized Medical AX team and will host a “Medical AX Seminar” this month, inviting representatives from general hospitals, as part of its efforts to expand adoption nationwide.

Kim Bong-kyun, Executive Vice President and Head of KTCorporation’s Enterprise Division, stated, “In line with the national policy to expand medical AI, KTCorporation will take the lead in promoting Medical AX as an AX platform company.” He added, “Since each hospital has different systems, data environments, and priorities for implementing AX, we will combine KTCorporation’s infrastructure and AX capabilities to provide a foundation that enables hospitals to adopt the services they need and expand them in phases.”
