[Edaily YU JIN-HEE Reporter] #Remedy, a company specializing in medical imaging and artificial intelligence (AI), has designated Indonesia as its key strategic base for targeting the Southeast Asian public healthcare market. The company’s strategy is to move beyond simply exporting finished products and instead establish its own local production base to secure a leading position in the rapidly growing Southeast Asian procurement market.

Establishing
a Local Foreign-Invested Company… Building an X-ray Assembly Plant

According to industry sources on the 29th, Remedy is further refining its localization strategy in line with its participation in a large-scale Indonesian government tender. The company’s top executives recently visited Jakarta in person to review key licensing procedures for establishing a local foreign-invested company (PMA) and constructing a finished product assembly plant.

During this site visit, discussions focused on: △completion of the PMA establishment filing; △on-site inspection of candidate sites for the assembly plant; △review of environmental impact assessments and building permits; and △the approval process required by the Indonesian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) for the manufacture of radiation equipment.

The company’s strategy is to proactively secure an independent supply chain within the Southeast Asian market through the swift establishment of the corporation and the commencement of facility construction. The Indonesian public healthcare procurement market is trending toward significantly strengthening regulations on the use of domestically produced parts (TKDN) to protect and foster local industries. While import volumes of finished products are subject to restrictions on bidding bonus points or participation, companies that meet the local assembly and parts procurement ratios are granted absolute priority in bidding.

By directly operating its own production plant, Remedy will neutralize these strengthening trade barriers and establish a solid institutional foundation to secure a dominant share of projects commissioned by the Indonesian Ministry of Health. Previously, Remedy officially participated—alongside a local partner—in a large-scale public procurement tender for portable X-ray equipment funded by the Indonesian central government budget (APBN) to ensure rapid plant operation.

This tender is a national procurement project aimed at significantly expanding on-site diagnostic infrastructure in public healthcare facilities across Indonesia, an archipelagic nation. Remedy has already proven its exceptional quality by supplying compact X-ray equipment to local health centers through an Indonesian government tender last year. Officials from the Institute of Hospital Engineering (IAHE), a public institution under the Indonesian Ministry of Health, visited Remedy’s factory in South Korea last April and signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) to facilitate the local mass production of ultra-compact equipment and strengthen healthcare capabilities. Remedy plans to secure the contract by leveraging its long-standing expertise in ultra-compact X-ray generator technology and its track record of overseas supply.

Indonesia is Southeast Asia’s largest economy and healthcare market, with a population of 285 million. Its territory is fragmented into more than 17,000 islands, creating a geographic environment where access to large hospitals is limited. As a result, there is a very high national demand for mobile medical services—where medical staff travel with equipment to patients—and for remote imaging diagnostics, rather than patients traveling to central hospitals. Based on the population, even a simple calculation estimating the cost of an X-ray at approximately 10,000 won per session suggests that the potential diagnostic market alone is worth about 2.85 trillion won.

Remedy does not settle for one-time hardware deliveries but combines them with a software service model. The company plans to directly replicate the next-generation digital healthcare ecosystem it is currently developing in Korea with DAEWOONGPHARMACEUTICAL(069620)in Southeast Asia.

The company envisions supplying portable X-ray units to the approximately 10,000 public health centers, known as “Puskesmas,” operating throughout Indonesia, and establishing a telemedicine network that instantly transmits images to central university hospitals and an AI cloud platform for interpretation. Once this project is established, it will create a high-profit, recurring revenue structure that generates not only one-time revenue from device sales but also a steady stream of per-case interpretation fees.

Following the U.S. and India, Southeast Asia… Leaping Toward Global Platform Leadership

Founded in 2012, Remedy is an innovative company that possesses core technologies in ultra-compact X-ray tube control, ultra-high-vacuum sealed packaging, and ultra-lightweight high-voltage generators. Its flagship model, the “Remex-KA6,” has been acclaimed in medical settings both domestically and internationally thanks to its lightweight design—which allows for one-handed operation—and extremely low radiation exposure levels.

Following its participation in India’s National Tuberculosis Control Program—where it supplied 2,284 units to the central government—the company built a solid global track record by being the sole bidder to pass the technical evaluation in a tender by the state government of Odisha, which has a population of 46 million. Recently, it secured entry into the U.S. market by signing a contract with American Medical Administrators (AMA), a major U.S. hospital management group, to supply equipment and an AI-powered teleradiology platform. According to a global market research firm, the global portable X-ray market is valued at approximately $810 million (about 1.0989 trillion won).

Driven by this diversification of exports, Remedy recorded sales of 15.5 billion won and an operating profit of 6.1 billion won in the first half of this year. In just the first half of the year, the company far exceeded its projected annual sales for 2025 (14.6 billion won) and achieved an operating profit margin of approximately 40%.

Export revenue from direct overseas sales alone reached 13.9 billion won. Analysts predict that Remedy will set a new record for annual performance, leveraging the establishment of its local production system in Indonesia and its supply to the U.S. as a springboard.

A Remedy official stated, “The Indonesian procurement bid and investment in a local production line mark a significant turning point as we penetrate the heart of Southeast Asia’s public healthcare market,” adding, “Going beyond simple device distribution, we will establish a remote diagnostic network connecting our local production plant with over 10,000 health centers, thereby emerging as a global leader in medical imaging platforms.”
