The union and the company had previously postponed the announcement of the detailed performance bonus criteria from the 30th to early October. The announcement was originally scheduled for the last week of September, immediately after Chuseok, but was postponed once.
Employees of SamsungElectronics’ Device Solutions (DS) Division are expected to receive special performance bonuses totaling hundreds of millions of won per person next year. While the general framework was established through labor-management negotiations during wage talks last May, specific payment criteria had not been disclosed. The announcement in early October is expected to provide detailed information on eligibility, the bonus amount, and the calculation method.
Previously, in May, SamsungElectronics’ labor and management agreed to pay a special performance bonus funded by 10.5% of the DS Division’s operating profit.
Of this amount, 40% will be distributed equally to all DS Division employees as a priority, while the remainder will be allocated differentially based on the performance of each business unit. There is no separate cap, and the bonus will be paid in the form of company stock. One-third of the shares can be sold immediately, while the remaining two-thirds will be subject to selling restrictions for one year and two years, respectively.
As compensation for the DS Division expands, dissatisfaction among employees in the Device Experience (DX) Division is growing. In response, Noh Tae-moon, Head of the Device Experience (DX) Division and President and CEO, is expected to hold a town hall meeting with all employees next month to address the situation.
Meanwhile, SamsungElectronics will announce its preliminary third-quarter earnings results on the 8th. In the second quarter, the company posted revenue of 171.5 trillion won and operating profit of 89.5 trillion won, achieving an operating profit margin of 52.2%. The securities industry forecasts third-quarter revenue of around 200 trillion won and operating profit set to exceed 100 trillion won for the first time in history.
