[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] GENEMATRIX INC.(109820)announced on the 6th that it has obtained a U.S. patent for the core technology of its gene delivery vector platform, “GM-CAD1.”
GM-CAD1 is a gene delivery platform that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI)-based design technology to engineer viral vectors. It is designed to eliminate the virus’s pathogenicity and its ability to replicate in the human body, reduce the immunogenicity of the vector itself, and enhance the delivery efficiency of the target gene.

According to the company, GM-CAD1 works by inducing an immune response in the body against the target gene it carries. By inducing the production of antibodies against the target gene antigen and utilizing an immune response that selectively eliminates cells expressing that antigen, the platform can be applied to the development of various new drugs, including anticancer drugs, gene therapies, and therapeutic and preventive vaccines.
GENEMATRIX INC. previously confirmed the efficacy of GM-CAD1 using animal models for cervical cancer and shingles. The company explained that in animal tests for a shingles vaccine, it observed a therapeutic effect more than three times greater than that of existing treatments. Based on these results, the company completed the registration of a domestic patent for GM-CAD1 last February.
With the acquisition of this U.S. patent, the company has secured intellectual property (IP) rights for GM-CAD1 overseas, following its domestic registration. GENEMATRIX INC. plans to expand its new drug pipeline based on this platform while pursuing partnerships with overseas pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
Kim Seok-jun, Vice President of GENEMATRIX INC., stated, “With this U.S. patent registration, we have further strengthened the global intellectual property (IP) foundation for GM-CAD1,” adding, “Going forward, we will continue to develop a diverse pipeline using the GM-CAD1 core platform and actively pursue global partnerships.”
