On the afternoon of the 6th, Hwang Jung-min attended the opening ceremony of the 31st Busan International Film Festival at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan, alongside “Hope” director Na Hong-jin, Jo In-sung, and Eum Moon-seok. Hwang Jung-min appeared wearing a black suit and greeted fans with a bright smile.
This appearance drew attention as it marked his first official public appearance in quite some time following the allegations regarding his private life. Although Hwang Jung-min had attended events such as the stage greetings for *Hope* when the allegations first surfaced, this marks his first official film-related engagement in about two months.
On July 29, Woman A, who raised allegations regarding Hwang Jung-min’s private life, claimed via social media that she had been in a personal relationship with him. Woman A continued her revelations by releasing text messages and audio recordings.
On the 8th of last month, the 4th Criminal Division of the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Young-ah) sentenced Ms. A, who had been indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, to a fine of 6 million won. The court also ordered her to complete a 40-hour anti-stalking treatment program.
Hwang Jung-min’s agency, Sam Company, stated in an official statement, “This ruling confirms that the defendant’s actions constituted a clear case of stalking that has seriously infringed upon Hwang Jung-min’s daily life,” adding, “We deeply respect the judiciary’s decision.”
The agency continued, “We plan to continue taking legal action regarding the dissemination of false information and the release and distribution of maliciously edited recordings that occurred during the trial,” and added, “We will hold the perpetrator accountable without leniency should any further illegal acts occur.”
