[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] News of the passing of cartoonist Heo Young-man spread widely, but it was later confirmed to be an obituary for someone else with the same name.
On the 8th, a representative for Heo Young-man told E-Daily, “We’re taken aback by the sudden spread of the obituary and the many calls we’ve received,” adding, “He is currently undergoing rehabilitation and recovering.” Previously, a post titled “Obituary: Cartoonist Heo Young-man Passes Away” had spread through online communities. However, it was confirmed that the obituary referred to someone else with the same name. Cartoonist Heo Young-man was admitted to the intensive care unit last June following a fall. At the time, a representative for Heo Young-man explained, “Cartoonist Heo Young-man recently experienced health issues and is currently devoting himself to treatment and recovery as recommended by medical staff,” adding, “He plans to suspend all public activities for the time being and rest.” As a result, *Baekban Ki-haeng* concluded its season with a special episode titled “The Baekban We Loved: 7 Years of Delicious Memories.” Subsequently, TV Chosun presented a plaque of appreciation to artist Heo Young-man, who had led “Gourmet Heo Young-man’s Baekban Journey” for seven years. Since Heo Young-man was unable to attend the ceremony due to health reasons, his son, Heo Seok-kyun—CEO of Heo Young-man Co., Ltd.—accepted the plaque on his behalf.
