[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] LG Energy Solution is reportedly the sole battery supplier for British luxury car brand Bentley’s first all-electric vehicle. LG Energy Solution batteries will be used not only in vehicles sold domestically but also in those sold in overseas markets.

According to industry sources on the 15th, Bentley’s first all-electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), the “Torcal,” will be exclusively equipped with LG Energy Solution’s nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) lithium-ion batteries.

The fact that LG Energy Solution’s batteries would be used was first reported last May. At that time, Frank-Steffen Walliser, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, stated in an interview at the Crewe plant in the UK that Bentley’s first electric vehicle would be equipped with LG Energy Solution’s pouch-type battery cells. However, he did not disclose the specific scope of the supply agreement.

When asked about the battery supplier at the Asian premiere event for the Torcal held in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, Chairman Baliger said, “I cannot disclose all the details, but generally speaking, the supplier based in Korea is LG Corp.” It has also been confirmed that LG Energy Solution batteries will be the sole choice not only for vehicles sold domestically but also for models sold in overseas markets.

The Volkswagen Group, to which Bentley belongs, operates a multi-supplier strategy—sourcing parts with identical specifications from multiple vendors—to ensure supply chain stability. This approach is designed to reduce dependence on any single supplier and secure a stable supply of parts. However, it is reported that the Torcal will be equipped exclusively with LG Energy Solution batteries.

The Torcal is equipped with an NCM battery with a capacity of 113 kilowatt-hours (kWh). NCM batteries are ternary batteries that use nickel, cobalt, and manganese in the cathode material; due to their high energy density, they are primarily used in electric vehicles that require long driving ranges and high power output.

The Torcal can travel up to 600 km on a single charge according to the European Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). It supports ultra-fast charging at up to 400 kilowatts (kW), and it takes approximately 16 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%. However, these figures are based on UK standards, and the detailed specifications of the model to be launched in South Korea may vary depending on certification results.

Bentley began accepting orders in Korea today, and the first customer deliveries are scheduled for late 2027.
