[Min Ji-Son, Edaily Reporter] On Oct. 19, South Korean pharmaceutical and biotech stocks rose across the board, buoyed by company-specific developments and easing concerns over potential production disruptions. Samsung Biologics surged on the KOSPI after a court ruling reduced the risk of manufacturing interruptions caused by a planned strike. On the KOSDAQ, Inventera gained after securing U.S. regulatory approval to begin a Phase 1 trial of its pancreatic and biliary duct imaging agent. G2GBIO hit the daily upper limit in after-hours trading following a platform evaluation agreement with a Chinese pharmaceutical company.
G2GBIO Hits Daily Upper Limit After Signing Agreement with China’s UBT

The stock had posted a modest gain during regular trading without a clear catalyst. However, buying accelerated in the after-hours market after the company announced a new agreement near the close, sending shares to the daily upper limit of 40,450 won.
G2GBIO disclosed that it had signed a material transfer and platform evaluation agreement with Chinese pharmaceutical company The United Biotechnology (UBT) to develop long-acting injectable formulations.
Under the agreement, G2GBIO will evaluate whether its proprietary InnoLAMP platform can be applied to a drug candidate provided by UBT to create an injectable formulation capable of sustaining drug release over an extended period.
UBT previously signed a licensing agreement with Novo Nordisk in March of last year for UBT251, a drug candidate for diabetes and obesity. The deal included a $200 million upfront payment and up to $1.8 billion in milestone payments.
InnoLAMP is a drug delivery technology that encapsulates active pharmaceutical ingredients in spherical microparticles measuring approximately 10 to 100 micrometers in diameter.
The particles are designed to release drugs gradually over several weeks to months, maintaining therapeutic effects while reducing the frequency of dosing. Applying this technology to drug candidates could enhance their competitiveness not only in terms of efficacy but also in terms of patient convenience.
“Long-acting injectable formulations are increasingly being adopted to improve treatment convenience and strengthen product competitiveness, rather than simply bringing a drug to market,” said a G2GBIO official. “This agreement should be viewed in that broader context.”
The agreement runs from October 19 until the earlier of the completion of the research or 12 months after the signing date. It may be extended by mutual written consent.
The contract includes an upfront payment and development milestone payments; however, the financial terms and the specific drug candidate were not disclosed due to confidentiality provisions.
However, since the upfront payment met the disclosure threshold of at least 10% of G2GBIO’s revenue in the previous fiscal year, it is estimated to be worth at least approximately 42.31 million won. The company is not required to return the upfront payment even if the agreement is terminated.
The key question for investors is whether this evaluation will lead to a broader commercialization agreement.
The partnership remains in the feasibility assessment stage, with G2GBIO testing whether InnoLAMP can be successfully applied to UBT’s drug candidate. The results—and any subsequent co-development or licensing agreement—will serve as important indicators of the platform’s commercial potential.
G2GBIO stated that it would continue its existing collaborations alongside the UBT evaluation, including a co-development agreement signed with Boehringer Ingelheim last year, a partnership with an unnamed European company referred to as Company B, and ongoing discussions with another prospective partner, Company A.
“We will work quickly to advance the UBT collaboration to the next stage and disclose any relevant developments through regulatory filings,” the G2GBIO official said.
Inventera Rises on FDA Clearance for Pancreatic Imaging Agent
Inventera stock trend on Oct. 19. (Image = MP Doctor)Inventera closed at 9,860 won, up 5.91%, or 550 won, from the previous session. The stock climbed as high as 10,940 won during the trading day.
Investor sentiment was buoyed by news that the company had received U.S. regulatory clearance to begin clinical trials of INV-003, an oral contrast agent designed for magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP).
Inventera announced on Monday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had approved its Investigational New Drug (IND) application for a Phase 1 trial of INV-003. The approval was granted on October 16, U.S. local time.
MRCP is a noninvasive imaging procedure that uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to examine the pancreatic and bile ducts. It is commonly used to diagnose and evaluate conditions such as gallstones and narrowing of the pancreatic or biliary ducts.
Rather than making the ducts themselves appear brighter, INV-003 is designed to suppress bright signals from the surrounding gastrointestinal tract.
This approach aims to reduce interference from fluid in the stomach and intestines, which can appear bright on MRI scans and obscure the pancreatic and bile ducts.
"With conventional MRI scans, the stomach often appears bright, making it difficult to clearly visualize the pancreatic and bile ducts located behind it," said an Inventera official. "We developed an oral contrast agent that darkens the stomach on imaging, allowing the pancreatic and bile ducts to be seen more clearly."
The Phase 1 trial will enroll up to 30 adults requiring MRCP examinations and will be conducted at a single U.S. clinical site over approximately 12 months from the IND clearance date.
Participants will receive a single oral dose of INV-003, with doses gradually increased to assess safety and tolerability.
The study aims to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and establish the recommended Phase 2 dose (RP2D). The timing of the first patient dosing has not yet been determined.
The trial will also assess the agent’s effectiveness in improving MRCP image quality.
In addition to determining whether INV-003 can be administered safely, researchers will examine whether it helps physicians better visualize the pancreatic and biliary ducts during diagnostic imaging.
“We will evaluate image quality and whether lesions and other relevant structures can be clearly identified on the scans,” said the Inventera official.
Samsung Biologics Shares Rise as Court Restricts Strike Action in Key Production Processes
Samsung Biologics stock trend on Oct. 19. (Image = MP Doctor)Samsung Biologics closed at 1,427,000 won, up 9.94%, or 129,000 won, from the previous session. Shares reached an intraday high of 1,432,000 won.
The rally followed a court decision restricting industrial action in additional critical manufacturing processes, easing investor concerns over potential production disruptions from a planned labor strike.
The Incheon division of the Seoul High Court expanded the scope of production processes subject to restrictions on industrial action from three to nine in an appeal involving an injunction sought by Samsung Biologics against its labor union.
The ruling came ahead of a full-scale strike scheduled to begin on October 26, raising expectations that the company could maintain continuity in key manufacturing operations.
As a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), Samsung Biologics produces and supplies biopharmaceutical products for clients under strict quality requirements and delivery schedules.
Potential production disruptions can affect not only near-term earnings but also the reliability of customer relationships and long-term manufacturing contracts.
Meanwhile, Samsung Biologics continued to highlight its expansion into antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), a next-generation class of cancer treatments.
The company announced Monday that it had presented its ADC service capabilities at World ADC San Diego 2026 in the United States.
ADCs combine antibodies with potent drug payloads, requiring multiple manufacturing steps, including antibody production, drug conjugation, and analytical testing. The ability to integrate these services is therefore a key competitive advantage for CDMO providers.
At the event, Samsung Biologics outlined its efforts and progress toward establishing commercial-scale ADC manufacturing capabilities. It also presented research involving its bispecific antibody platform and patient-derived organoids.
“We will continue to expand our capabilities in emerging modalities, including peptides, to further strengthen our end-to-end service offerings and meet the full range of customer needs,” said Lee Sang-myung, an executive director responsible for CDO development at Samsung Biologics.
