In a recent interview with Marie Claire Korea, Director Maggie Kang stated, “I’d like to try my hand at live-action films. I’d also like to tackle stories with a slightly darker tone than what I’ve done so far,” expressing her desire to broaden her scope as a director beyond animation.

The November issue of Marie Claire Korea highlighted Director Maggie Kang’s journey as a creator and her future challenges. “Wanderers Women” is a project that tells the stories of women who blaze their own trails and discover new possibilities. Director Maggie Kang participated as the first contributor alongside art director Ryu Seong-hee.

She stated, “While luck is important, it’s also crucial to create an environment where you can encounter that luck yourself,” adding, “I believe that luck follows when you put yourself in a position where opportunities can arise through your own efforts.” She also emphasized the importance of being prepared to seize opportunities when luck comes your way.

Director Maggie Kang also highlighted the importance of attitude. Recalling an experience where she hesitated to speak up during an important meeting attended by executives, she said, “Now, I just speak up. Because better ideas can come from that,” expressing her belief that new possibilities open up through the process of sharing opinions.

She also spoke about the sense of responsibility she feels as a Korean-American female director. “Opportunities don’t come around very often,” Director Maggie Kang said. “So when one does come along, I try not to let it slip away. I want to show the world that we, too, can create stories like this,” she added, expressing her hope that creators like herself will gain more opportunities and be able to tell a wider variety of stories.

Following her participation as a speaker at CNN’s Global Leadership Forum “Global Perspectives: In Bangkok,” held in Bangkok, Thailand, Director Maggie Kang shared a variety of stories—ranging from her pride in Korean culture to her creative motivations and future plans—through the fashion magazine Marie Claire Korea’s “Wanderers Women” project.

Held on the 14th, “Global Perspective” marked the forum’s first event in Asia, bringing together key leaders and figures from the economic and cultural sectors around the world to discuss global changes and the future. Director Maggie Kang was listed as a speaker alongside Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB); Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO); and Anthony Tan, CEO of Grab.

In a conversation with CNN correspondent Hanako Montgomery, Director Maggie Kang reflected on how she developed a sense of pride in Korean culture.

Having grown up in Toronto, Canada—a city that embraces multiculturalism—she explained, “I think it was thanks to that environment that I was able to take pride in and celebrate my culture.” She added that her parents instilled a sense of pride in her Korean identity from a young age and taught her about Korean history, which allowed her to deepen her understanding of and connection to Korean culture.

Director Maggie Kang directed the Netflix film *K-Pop Demon Hunters* (Kedeheon), which was released last June. Since its release, “K-Pop Demon Hunters” has topped the global viewership rankings in Netflix’s movie category, sparking a global phenomenon. Additionally, the film’s soundtrack—including “Golden” by Huntrix and “Soda Pop” by Lion Boys, which serve as theme songs for the idols in the film—gained widespread popularity, charting on various global music platforms.

Director Maggie Kang, a Korean-American, majored in animation at Sheridan College in Canada and has worked as a story artist at DreamWorks, Blue Sky, Warner Bros., and Illumination.
