[Edaily Reporter YUN GI BACK ] The Japanese animated film *Chiikawa: The Secret of the Mermaid Island* led the box office this weekend, surpassing 2.11 million cumulative viewers. It dominated the box office, outpacing *The Assassin(s)*, which ranked second in daily attendance, by more than five times.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 25th, “Chiikawa” took the top spot at the box office on Saturday, the 24th, drawing 145,109 viewers. Its cumulative attendance stands at 2,112,687.
“The Assassin(s)” ranked second on the same day, drawing 28,692 viewers. Its cumulative attendance has risen to 3,348,403. This figure exceeds the break-even point of 3.3 million—a figure reportedly recently adjusted to reflect overseas sales and ancillary rights revenue.
However, there was a significant gap in daily attendance compared to “Chiikawa.” The difference in daily attendance between the two films was 116,417, with “Chiikawa” drawing approximately 5.1 times as many viewers. While “The Assassin(s)” has surpassed its break-even point, the balance of the weekend box office appears to have shifted in favor of “Chiikawa.” Following these, “Paradise Lost” took third place, “Clayface” fourth, and “Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub” fifth.
